Why do people make 3d sculptures? Yeah, they look great but I don't understand the point of making a digital sculpture. pic related, it looks cool, but unless it is being printed into a statue, it seems like a waste of time.

Question for any programmers who might lurk /3/... How hard would it be to "fork" the Blender source into a new project? It would be really cool to have a version of Blender that didn't have all the Blender-isms like right-click to select, etc... I'm a programmer myself and would contribute to such a project. I just don't know if creating a separate project violates their license, etc... Could it be legally done? Please, if you think the oddities of Blender are awesome, save it for another thread. Just keep right on using it the way it is.

Quick 3ds Max question. How do I change the default behavior of Max changing the Z axis to Y when switching to front, back or side views? I don't want it to change relative to the view I'm using since I find that confusing as hell.

Hey /3/ Recreating a Trabant 601 which is slightly pimped up. Only issue is the background. Any way of using an HDRI for both reflections and environment (without the crappy blur/warping) or do I really need both background AND hdri of the place for full realism. If so, I do have a cubemap of it. Done in 3ds max btw, with Nvidia Mental Ray. Not gonna pay for Vray who has extra options for cube and spherical map recognition.

Super low poly character modelling. What a difficult to study limitation. There are very few tutorials, and the few that exist are just awful. Not that I don't appreciate them, but they don't answer any questions or actually explain anything. It's irritating, really. I don't mind going off on my own and looking at things though. But that's pretty difficult to do as well. Very few models of characters under 500 tris exist to look at, and the few that do don't really...answer questions I have. Like those wonderful TF2 ones, for instance. Of course, I get that people who create these kinds of things are already proficient, so it just comes naturally to them, as it would come to me if I learned...I suppose high poly modelling first. But I still have burning questions about low-poly modelling, and really have no interest in the other stuff at all. It's really, really frustrating. I could cry, even. I was originally going to ask for advice and help but I guess I already know what answer I'm going to get from you guys. I'll keep hunting for low-poly models that I can actually closely study to continue trying to fit the last few pieces of this puzzle together. In the meantime, how about some low-poly stuff to cheer me up?

This is a low poly model I made for a multiplayer mobile game that I've been hired to make for a tech demo. I went for slightly cartoon-ish look for the proportions to make it stand out on mobile screens, while using more realistic texturing.
