figured this would be more appropriate than /g/. what would be the best laptop for rendering high tri models and animating them? right now I use an old hp from a few years ago with blender, but I get pretty staggering lag. id like a laptop I can use a better program like maya. suggestions?

hi /3/, So wednesday i have to go through this animation test to see if this company will hire me for the next mounth. Problem is, the company works with maya, and i work with 3dsmax (and xsi). I'm going to train myself for the next couple of days, but meanwhile, could you share some tips on your animation workflow in maya? Shortcuts, functions, maya specific things, anything that comes to mind, and for those of you you are also knowledgable about 3dsmax, differences between both softs workflow-wise. Hello /3/, first time coming around here. A couple months back I got into Blender, fooling around on my laptop with a nude Samus Aran model I got from a friend. H-related content of her was scarce at the time, so this was an enjoyable pastime. Didn't get that much into it though, due to inherent limitation problems of working on a laptop. Anyway, I made a bunch of poses and uploaded them. is it worth having one /3/? I've seen them around but haven't used one and want to know if they're overpriced placebo or if it actually helps you get work done. Does anyone have one and do you use it for non-3D things too?

Hey /3/. So I've sculpted this limestone cave thing in zbrush and I'm starting to retopo it in topogun. Originally I was going to have the stalactites and stalagmites be connected to the main piece but it's getting sort of impossible to keep it low poly when I do that without putting in a ton of triangles. Should I keep going for this one piece part, or make them separate; what do you suggest? I want to keep this relatively light but I also want it to look seamless as far as the texture goes since the piece is pretty big and important.

hi everyone. So I'm starting my second(kinda) car model. I always have a problem with lining up the image planes though. They simply never line up perfectly. Also, how do you get those sleak edges on the side of the car. Its giving me a really hard time just trying to figure out their shape just from pictures online. I'm making the ford fiesta s2000 by the way.some general modeling tips for things like this would be appreciated..

I'm attending a graphic design and art direction course and we're using modo in our 3D Design module. Problem is, I can't seem to find many tutorials and materials online. There's only one book around ("Building 3D Models with modo") and it only gives explanations on which tools do what, doesn't really teach you how to model and such. I'm completely new to 3D, but as I understand it there are other programs (such as Maya and 3dsmax) which are more used and for which there are more learning resources available. Do you think my university was right in choosing modo and not going with a more popular choice?
