So I decided a while back that I was going to try to make a game, and today I started to make assets. I have never done 3D modelling before, but I managed to get this character done today and it's starting to look somewhat ok... for a beginner. Basically the problem I'm having is that the model I have so far is very bumpy. I have a feeling that I may be using too many polygons and that's what's making it that way, but at the same time if I turn down the number of them it may not look as good as I want it to. So from what you can see in these pics, what am I doing right, and what am I doing wrong?
Note: I have not started on the hands, feet, or eyes yet, or the textures, or anything else besides the basic model. The character has floating hands and head, and lacks a body, so I shouldn't have a problem with those because the hands and feet are round. As another question to ask, it it possible to make a bone model based on points where there is no model? I can post a reference picture of how the character is supposed to look if needed.
