let's discuss this shit. i'm going to assume octane is so fast because it only runs on pc and nvidia hardware which means they can optimize it more while all the others are cross platform, but why does the vray one not have the reflection in the floor? and god damn how is it looking that good out of the c4d physical renderer? any pros want to critique the comparisons for foolery? like using little tricks or optimizing the image for one render or another? i'm thinking about getting vray4c4d but considering it costs like 1000 bucks and according to this little compare and contrast it doesn't really blow away the c4d physical renderer? but i have a sneaky suspicion vray outperforms on refractions, fogs and shit like that, but i don;t know so...enlighten me on this shit.

I am currently trying to test a vertex colored graphical style in Unity and I have all the shaders and shit in place and I have some .fbx assets I plan to use to prototype this. I only really know how to use Blender and I was hoping to use it to vertex color, mark edges and bake some AO to the models. The problem is when I try to import these files into blender the rotations get all fucked up. Pic related, the rotations in blender. Is there any way to make them align properly like a door when I import them instead of having to rotate each object manually in blender?

Is it worth it?

Weird Xnormal error

Anyone ever experience this? IDK what I'm doing wrong with xnormal (to the right), Decided to do some normals baking fast with maya on low quality and they came out great. Xnormal usually gives even better results. How do I fix this? I tried with and without using a cage in xnormal, and calculating/not calculating ray distance. In maya I didn't need a cage and they worked fine.

ITT: We discuss the pros and cons of making comics using 3D and VFX tools such as Maya, after effects, nuke, blender, Zbrush, etc. Since it's a what if thread, both comics will be done by professional artists, both the 3D and the 2D.
