Can you guys recommend me a good program to make 3D rendered images or 3D animations. I intend to make erotic stuff that i can share for free to everyone. I've got source filmmaker but I personally think it's garbage. I know how to model and animate so any program will do, as long as it's easily accessible. Nevermind the price. So, recommend one that would be good for my intentions please I'll be sure to share you guys my stuff whenever they get done :)

what do you guys use for 3d design? I myself have a lenovo thinkpad x200 tablet that i picked up on ebay for £160 i managed to crack the screen sadly in which im gunna replace soon unless i see a better laptop that is pen enabled (i use it for photoshop too) I do need it to be laptop for my preferences but opinions would be great along side with what you use personally!

I mess around in 3d sometimes for the hell of it, mostly using MMD just because I like its real-time rendering capabilities, but I work in other software like Zbrush, Blender, XSI, Maya, etc. I do some stuff that most people would probably call autism, and they're probably right, but for me it's like solving a puzzle. Plus it nets me access to lots of content and shit that I'd have no hope of creating in a timely manner at my level. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to convert motions from Unreal(?) PSA format to BVH format in Blender and finally to VMD format usable with MMD(unfortunately I know of no way to convert PSA>BVH>VMD or PSA>BVH without Blender). However, while I've had success at least getting the rotation data into MMD, it seems like there is either a fundamental problem with the motion converter or with differences between MMD and Blender's rotation and axis systems. I'm going to use this thread more or less as my blog for this. Comment/laugh however you will, help would be appreciated, but I'm determined to figure this out either way and having a place to write things down will help me think better and not forget ideas. That said I'll be saging it so if you've got any interest in following the misadventures of a retard then don't expect it to be on the front page.

So, I started in 3D a few weeks ago, i've been doing low poly models for.... I dont know, maybe i'll make a game or something. What is the workflow like for modeling and animation? Do workplaces require you to model, texture, rig and animate or does each step get passed off at each stage? If I primarily want to model what should I focus on more animating and rigging or texturing. Should I just focus on modeling?

Here's one /3/. I'v exhausted Google and found nothing, maybe one of you guys could help me out here. I'm working in Maya (but have access to Zbrush and 3DS Max if one of those would be better suited) and I have what is essentially a ring. Said ring is low res and looks like a hollow nonagon when viewed from below. What I want to do is smooth the ring so that the outer curvature is rounded (think nonagon -> circle), however I don't want to round out the parts on the top and bottom. Effectively, I want to only smooth and round out via y-plan edge loops or subdivisions. Is there a way to smooth but only with respect to one plane? Or will I have to add vertical edge loops by hand and position each one by hand?

I'm learning some 3DS Max for some time, but still kinda new to this. How do you guys set up your lighting while modelling in your viewport? Also, how do you like to configure your viewport? Pic related, it's kinda hard to see with that shading. Am I doing something wrong? Also, my shadows are terrible. Sometimes I see screenshots like the pic to the right, with something like a blue light from the left and a red/brown light from the right, or a purple light from above. Is this some kind of standard?

What's the best poser like program nowadays? I've always used Daz3D in the past to pose models as references for my digital paintings. It needs to be easy to handle - the less complicated it is to set up a pose, the better.
