Hi. /g/ directed me here so I'll just repost this here. I like doing stuff in LEGO Digital Designer for hobby purposes, but when I take screenshots of models they look like pic related, i.e. crap. I read online that you can get pretty models rendered through Blender with the .ldr plugin, but for some reason it's not working for me. Then another option would be ldd2povray which doesn't seem to work with Wine for me (I tried all the installers they have listed on the page and it keeps saying "cabinet is not valid" when I run it with Wine). Basically is there a way I could render LEGO models properly without installing Windows?

Hi, im a new 3D modeler using Blender, and im curious about the pros selling their models on Unity, 3dstudios, turbosquid etc.. How much can someone make selling their own models? Can you actually make a living with it? How much you did selling your models? Sorry for english, not my primary language.

Hi /3/ i just started to learn unwrapping and texturing, and a friggin box its the only thing i've ever unwrapped. Any important things should be kept in mind while unwrapping? Why there is Relax by Polygons Angles, but no Relax by Face Angles? Pic related

Which is the best render engine for photorealistic organic surfaces, like human skin? For standalone pictures or (very) short animations.

Hi, It's my first time posting here, so don't get pissed off... I've been fooling around in SketchUp for almost a year and am looking for a more advanced software. Preferrably free or one-time pay, as I'm studying and don't have a lot of spare money.

Anyone knows a good free, open source NURBS modeller? Blender is obviously oriented to mesh poly modelling and Rhino isn't free. Help

I was just watching this 5 part 3dmotive tutorial of a armored orc creation for a game and im very confused about this guys pipeline and i just want someone to clear things up (some parts are cut from the tutorial) here is what he did. 1.He sculpted the orc body in zbrush. 2.He created the armor base in 3ds max and imported to zbrush. 3.He subdivided the armor to sculpt able level (35 mill the whole thing together) than Polly painted it. now what im confused about it is how he retopologized and unwrapped the mesh? because he used zbrush to export out all the maps and we both know if you tried to unwrap a 35 mill mesh in zbrush you're computer will catch on fire. and im almost sure he didnt just use decimation master than unwrapped because the wireframe was very uniformed you can tell that it was manually retopoed and the UVs looked hand unwrapped and not the pelt u get from zbrush. the only way i can think of is he brought the pieces to 3ds max 1 by 1 because 35m in 3ds max is just not possible. than he retopoed it in max and than brought it back to zbrush and used the projection master. but that just sounds like too much work. anyone have any idea.

Making a game.

How do I find people for a game project? I can model, texture, map and animate sufficiently good but my coding/scripting knowledge is next to nothing, seems like I am not very skilled learning this stuff and it seems like a mistery to me. In all honesty I would prefer doing everything on my own because I prefer doing all things my way and I dont really trust other people, I dont trust their abilities and I dont trust them personally but I cant finish my project without some coding.

whats the best way to retopologize a hard surface mesh? i use the plane with extend tool in 3ds max to retopo by hand, its fine for small/simple stuff like weapons and cars. but when it comes to scify shit with a lot of complex shapes and gears and wires ect. that method can take a whole week to retapo something. so whats the best method? or is this the best method? pic not related, yet somehow related

hi /3/, I was just wondering what you thought of a UFO Concept design I've made? I'm intending to use to help with a new comic story-line I'm developing (www.shinyverse.com). This is mostly going to be used to keep any sketches I do on-mark, because quote honestly using anything more than sketch-up to model this would have been completely beyond me. I'm thinking somewhere between X-Files alien UFOs meets BSG fighters. Any suggestions for changes and improvements are more than welcome! Thanks, - Anon.

You can download at this link the pdf file of my MD thesis about > "Parametric architecture and algorithms > for the design of a Natural History Museum > in Bari" dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/vxf0nizm1rv9a9p/Tesi.pdf What do you think about it (project, visualization, page layout, etc.)? I've used Rhinoceros & Grasshopper for the project, V-Ray for Rhino and Adobe InDesign. Also, I'm looking for a job. For everything my contacts here: francescodiniccolo.tk

Why are smoothing groups so important for UVing and baking? What happen if I bake my normals without setting sm groups? And for organic models? Is it the same?

Ok /3/ I want to create a small scene and right now Im wondering how can I make the mechanical stairs. One option would be using a normal map and letting the bumps come out. Doesnt matter if you dont look. The other one would be modelling each "spike" alone. But Im afraid of the moire effect. What would you do? Pic related.
