I'm looking to get into basic 3d illustrations and animations. Which software should I use? I'm a beginner I want to start with really basic stuff ie rotating spheres, inverting shapes, fading from one color to another. maybe download templates for humans and mess around with them. I make music and I want to use these shapes to make videos on youtube to go with it. i don't care how plebby it is at first. You use 'normal maps' to make more detail in fewer poly. So if I am understanding correctly; 1. Make a model, no attention to poly count 2. Make a similar model, same basic shape, much fewer poly. 3. rip the 'details' from original model. 4. 'Bake' on to newer, lower poly model. 5. You now have low poly model with all the detail of the million poly model. Correct, what am I missing?

So, i started studying ZBrush about 3 years ago, and it was always my dream to be good at it. But i was really really bad. But i did not get less excited, i kept on learning and practicing, i joined a sculpting course, and now i can do things that i look at and i am proud of, like this Torso Study: http://i.imgur.com/hb1aVe1.jpg I Know it is far from perfect, but my evolution is seeable, so, lets go to my point: I always watched Naruto, since i was 8, and his story touched me in many ways, because i relate to him a lot. If you never watched it, Naruto is about a boy who is the worst ninja of his academy, all of his colleagues surpass him in every way possible, but he always dreamt of being the best ninja of the world, and he never gave up and insisted a lot, and trained, and in the end [Mild Naruto Spoiler Ahead] He gets there [/Spoiler], and thats why i relate to him. So now i decided to do a tribute to him since he motivated me a lot!

How would I go about setting up a day-night cycle in blender cycles? Right now I'm using the sun_position add on (webm related). But it seems to only change the sky color from sunrise to midday to sunset, with no night time. I'd really like it to be able to add stars to the night, and change the color of the sun as it nears the horizon. I'm assuming changing the color would be as simple as animating the temp value along the animation, but as for changing the sky color/adding stars, I'm at a loss. tl:dr How do I set up a day/night cycle in blender cycles with stars?

Best software to create 3D printing models? I'm a newbie here, I have dipped into a bit of Blender but I'd love some advice from you guys. I want to create concept models of gadgets.
