Is Autodesk phasing out Max in favor of Maya? I'm already decent with Max but haven't really committed (financially or otherwise) to either program, would it be more "future proof" to learn my way around Maya?

Hello /3/, I am using Maya 2015, and happen to be experiencing some trouble with the time slider. First of all, when I skip ahead to frame 360, the scene rotates. Secondly, when I skip ahead on the time slider I receive a warning about skipping ahead too far... For this one I found some 'answers' on google about changing the preferences to 'Play every frame' but it has not helped. I would appreciate some late night help.

Hey /3/ This guy wants me to teach Zbrush to him. He's a great artist, he draws like crazy and is really good in 2D. He bought a Cintiq and is willing to bust his ass off. The tough thing is: He only has one arm. I've hotkey'd Alt and Shit to the Cintiq Pen's buttons, and every brush and command he manually selects on their respective menus. For now, everything is going smoothly. But I'm wondering if He'll ever need to mask, select or polygroup stuff. I mean, these are gimicks that save a LOT of time in digital, but are not existant in traditional sculpture. I recently started using 3ds max, but have a bit of prior experience with blender as well. I understand how hard surface modeling works and most most of the essential tools and techniques in 3d modeling. I attempted to make a face using max, and it is so far looking somewhat not terrible for the first time I made a face. I did a bit of research into what the "proper" facial topology/edge loops should look like, and I think that I did okay. Not great, but okay for a beginner. What do you /3/tards think? tl;dr: I know I'm not that great, how can I improve. Pic related.

What's the correct way to combine multiple ambient occlusion values? I have ambient occlusion from three different sources (SSAO, vertex baked and texture) and I need to combine them together into one ambient occlusion value. Multiplying them together artificially darkens the places where sources overlap, so what's the correct way to combine them? Max and average both give plausible results, but which is physically correct?

hey /3/ quick question. how can i create mirrored UV's in 3ds max? i seen this done in a lot of textures, especially LOL textures: like for example. when i remesh a model in zbrush with symmetry on its the same thing on both sides, and i want to save some UV spaces by just unwrapping 1 side and having it mirror to the other side. i tried unwrapping both sides and copying the uvs of 1 side and pasting it onto the other side. on the UV island i get two identical islands which looks like it should work, but it doesn't... anyone how i can do this? pic sorta related. the head is all symmetrical UV's or mirrored (however you wanna call it)

So, I'm currently a junior in High School. Looks like the G2F clothing can be made to fit G3F but pretty much fuck everything else you have, including textures. They finally dumped tri-ax weight mapping but they're still stuck with Optitex dynamic cloth for at least another year, which they'll replace just in time for Genesis 4.

I've just discovered Artbooks, i had no idea Studios sold these things filled with their artwork/ concept art of their projects. My mind is blown, what i want to know is do 3D artists use these in general or it is mainly useful for 2D artists? It seems like a superb source of references; even if you're not copying the models?
