I've been doing 3d for two years now on my own. Ive become far more interested in developing tools and programs and shaders and pipelines than making yet another fallout pistol or a building rendering. Although i can do both with incredible skill. I wonder about getting a job now - it seems that 3d companies that are looking for employees would hire me in an instant once i show my reel but they would also rape all of my rights. Im talking about non-compete, anything i make on my free time that is even vaguely entertainment related is legally owned by them, for the duration of the employment with them and possibly for 1 year after that i will have to sign or else i wont be hired. This is troublesome for me because i know that i can make it big in 3d software development because i have unique tools and extremely substantial 3d programming skills. I also need money. Should i get into IT/web design to avoid this legal trap they want to catch me in? Or should i sign away all my rights and become another statistic?

So I decided to start playing around with Maya again, and in my ignorance I've somehow, apparently, managed to turn on a setting that causes vertices to influence other verts; I can't move one without dragging nearby vertices along with it. How do I turn this off? I googled the shit out of this but I have no idea what terminology to use. Thanks.

Hey three I'm about to finish up a demo reel for some companies that I'm applying for and seeing how you guys probably have the most experience in this field I'd like to ask a question about demo reels/portfolios/showcases. Mainly the legality of using licensed music (whether from a video game/ film /etc) in my portfolio. Does it fall under fair use or would that be considered copyright violation. I have never been able to find a solid answer on the internet that wasn't too vague or easily contradicted by a later article in one way or another. So I'd like to ask you guys and your experience on the subject.

Hey /3/, Please advise. I am appearing for a test for a motion graphics mainly After Effects based job test tomorrow. A friend who works there says I'll be asked to design some sort of animated logo for city's Metro Train service. He says they prefer logos with some AOC depth and not too many flashy CC particles or 2D stuff. Can anyone point me in general direction of a technique I can use or some good animated logos I can use as reference( Test will be atleast 4 hours so I'll have time to, if needed, model and render in Max or Maya and composite it in After effects). Please help.
