Why are seams visible on a 3d model? I'm not asking about any particular model, I'm just asking why seams are visible on any given model in general. I'm guessing it has something to do with the way the textures work, but obviously I'm not sure and I've gotten really curious and can't find any article on it. Why are seams visible, especially from greater distances? Can anyone explain or link proper literature on the subject?

Blender question

Something I always wondered... (without using the mirror modifier) Let's say at some part of a mesh I want to move some vertices to the side and want to do the same on the other side. I want them to be moved the same distance, so that both manipulations are pretty much symmetrical. Is there some quick snapping that recognizes the other side or do I have to use the grid to snap to if I wanted to make it accurately?

i want to make a mold out of this so i can cast it in concrete, or some kind of durable material, to use as a vase. anyone have any ideas on how i should approach this? i can 3d print, but that would be really expensive, as it's 26cm tall. i can laminate, but it would be an absurd amount of time to glue everything. i have access to a cnc mill, 3d printer, laser cutters, and other woodshop stuff. any suggestions? does anyone know of any companies that might make a mold from a 3d file?

Are capsule envelopes from the skin modifier in 3ds Max supposed to be barely-editable pieces of shit, or am I just doing something wrong? There has to be a better way to weight things, how do people even rig something that isn't a tube?

Streaming or windows recording

Hey guys. i was asked by some people to record how i do modeling and was wondering if there is some good screen capturing software which can record my modeling without to make my computer melting or show some unrelated commercial shit on my videos. can you recommend me some good and cheap software? thank you and have nice day of your life.

Why is Blender so retarded?

Who thought it was a smart idea to make the material editor so idiotic? Why is the option to add a texture to your material channels not readily available from the beginning? Nevermind the fact you have to google where to find the material editor in the first place unless you want to click on every fucking button looking for it, versus any other 3D application where you will always find a clearly labeled menu related to materials and anything else, and some sort of right-click menu for adding a material directly to an object. What's the fucking point of the top menu called "Window" if it doesn't actually list and open the various editors in Blender, like a material editor? There's only a few things under Window, whereas the things that should be there are for some stupid reason off to the left of the File menu, inside an icon that is usually associated with opening the INFO documentation in all other softwares... The amount of bad design decisions in this program is bonkers.

Hey guys, I'm teaching kids how to code in Unity, but my script has an error, can you check it out?

Adult rated 3D items

There are tons of sites where you can sell clean 3D stuff but what about the adult rated items? Is there any good site for selling 3D dicks for Poser/DAZ Studio? Is Renderorica any good?

Does anyone have an idea when we get Source 2?

12 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Yeah, I know Source was basically a meme engine currently getting raped by furfags, bronies, and autists, but what I loved about Source was that it was scalable to any platform. I know they released the Dota Workshop tools, but do we know when they will release an official build to be downloaded? Also, do you think they will fix the awful compile system? It would be nice just to import .fbx/other propriertary files like in Unreal Engine 4.

Animation school

I know this is not /adv/, but I'd like to hear your advice. I live in Italy and I'm graduating (Bachelor Degree) in Computer Engineer, then I'm going to move to UK (maybe Edimburgh) to conclude my school career with a MSc in Graphic Vision or Software Engineer. There's only a problem: I'd love to become an animator and make some fucking cartoons since I was little, but I knew (and know) that I could theatrically fail, because I don't know whether I have the right skills to do it. So I'm graduating in a subject that I'm comfortable with, then I thought that I could apply for an animation school and pursue my passion. Anyway I'd like to know what do you think of my plan and if you could suggest me the name of good animation schools (possibly with not such expensive tuition).

Mimicking plasticine stopmotion

Looking for criticism since I think that there is still something wrong and I want to do something like it but more evolved. It does bother me that I cant easily localise where the frame-by-frame deformations happen. It would be cool to have a nice way of keeping the base undeformed while simply twisting the top. Still pleased with it (I know that since I mimicked that amateur look it does make things easier)

Autodesk maya

So awhile back I decided to switch from blender to Autodesk maya since my friend repeatedly tried to convince me blender was literally satan. I have no money, so I tried to find a way to get a cracked version, and I just can't. I've looked everywhere, but I can't find a good keygen that isn't trying to buttfuck my computer with adware. What did you guys do?

blender uv

How do I unwrap this? I'm relatively new to the texturing part and I'm using this bedpost for my game, so it needs to be somewhat seamless and have a consistent pattern. When I unwrap a cylinder it comes out fine, but since this has triangles and pinch points will i have to texture a cylinder and make a new post from there? Or can I just vacuum seal the plain cylinder's texture around the bedpost?

Old QTDDTOT thread is dead. Is using noise reduction filters generally frowned upon for stills or is it acceptable for some cases?

Is Modo really that awesome ?

2 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
I'm a 3ds max user for 3 years , I just tried Modo for a month . At first I really love it, I feels like It helps me finish my work faster , the macro ,UI and scripts are very handy. But when I start a big project, an environment for example, I hate it layers and material system so I go back to 3ds max but then I started to miss Modo ;_; . What your opinions on Modo /3/ ?
