Hello! I'm new to Zbrush and 3D in general, I'm looking for a group to join where we I can learn more about 3D and maybe share ideas and collabs. I like Anime and Video game type stuff, mainly character creation. It would be nice to make some friends in the 3D world, thanks!

I've been trying to learn maya for the last few days. But I'm using the student version of Maya and it doesn't allow commercial work. Which is why I'm thinking of learning Blender. As a programmer, I only took on modelling because it feels fun and sometimes I need something specific in whatever it is that I'm creating. So I came here to ask, should I continue in using Maya and ignore all of its warnings (maybe hoping that one day I'll earn enough to buy it), or should I take up Blender before I'm too deep into Maya?

Between these two pieces of software, which should I switch to? My goal is to do freelance CG work for a living. I learned on Maya and Mudbox, but fuck Autodesk. I own a legit copy of ZBrush and Photoshop already, and I would almost definitely do my texturing in Substance Painter, via their subscription-to-own thing. The price difference between Modo and Lightwave is small enough that it doesn't matter so much to me. As I understand it, Lightwave is more stable than Modo. That's about the only real difference I know of that would apply to me, because of the reasons above.

Hello, /3/! Is anyone out there using 3DS Max 2016? Did you find any bugs with it? I've had a problem with it, when I import a model, any model, and apply TurboSmooth with 3 iters, I get a "KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILED" blue screen. It also stopped working for a whole week, and even corrupted Windows once. Anyone?

If you start modeling today, what would you choose, and why? Yes i've read the sticky more than once tho. I'm looking foward to improve my skills in 3D , i already know Rhino which i can say is a complete piece of shit but hey it was the only think I learned in college (my teacher seemed to know less than me kek) Here's why I don't like Rhino , I don't master de software but I feel like every step I do is destructive and if I need to ajust something later like a fillet or something I had do do it again instead of simply adjust its radius. I feel like working with rhino is like moving two steps foward and one backwards. I want to get to know 3D better to achieve some realistic vizualizations for example advertising and stuff. I believe I could never achieve something like this in Rhino for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmH691jNHXk If i wanted to put those ice cubes (MassFX) i would had to do it manually on Rhino... I want something that could be good to model some mockups (to render and do some mockups like those you see in creative market / graphic river). I also have a slight interest in ArchViz and car modeling, I don't have interest in animation yet. 3DsMax always seemed the way to go because it has tons of documentation, lots of modifiers, lots of plugins but I've read rumors (also here in /3/) that autodesk is ditching that shit, I don't want to start learning something that takes years to master if it's already in it's deathbed. Maya, I have a friend that started with Max and now moved to Maya he says he is not turning back, he told me if he was starting now he would go directly to Maya. (I never opened Maya in my life) Cinema 4D, well can't say much about it.. I've seen pretty cool things modeled and rendered with it , I liked the clean aspect of the renders to fit into /gd/ but maybe its just the render engine.. I have no ideia how it is in terms of modelling etc. Sorry for the long post..

hey /3/ can we get some zbrush tips and tricks thread going of shit we learned from sculpting/tutorials. ill post few that i can think off and contribute more when i remember more. 1. Clay brush with the imbed modifier set to 0 works as a grate cavity/hole eraser/blender (does not destroy topology and detail like smooth brush) 2. clay tubes brush with the alpha 48 at low intensity is a good way to add texture to your model if its too smooth or lumpy 3. the nudge tool is good for moving detail around on your model 4. inflating between a cavity is a better way to close a gap than pinching. (works the best when trying to close lips)

I'm new to 3D modeling for the most part. I have both Maya and Zbrush. I know my way around Mayas interface somewhat, I'm working on learning ZBrush here soon. I just have a question. I just have a slightly dumb question. If I want to sculpt myself as practice in Zbrush, how many reference images should I have minimum? I know the more the better. But if I want a good setup how many should I have?

So I created this clip, where guy is supposed to be sleeping cuz he overdosed the bong and he's hallucinating Hitler celebrating his b-day. Then the guy wakes up and prolly decides to never use narcotics again. (that guy is not animated, because my colleague was a dickbag and didn't do shit for the project). hey guys, whats a more idiot friendly engine to work on for someone who doesn't know anything about coding. unreal engine 4 or cryengine? since my only 2 skills are modeling and animating i want to create an scifi zoo and fill it with all the creatures i modeled and animated and have them just walk around. i only tried cryengine once a while back and it took me 4 days and the help of like 7 people single animation into the game... one thing i liked about cryengine tho was it had a really good prebuilt shading, lighting, water system and physics that didnt need tinkering with. does UE4 have that or no? (since my only goal for this project is to make it look good.
