It would be great for someone to do some character design and actual building of 3d model ideally in dae format (tested). The idea has to do with continually producing characters based on amount of generated interest. New theme mockups will be offered and premium users can vote on their preferred theme, each theme comprising of multiple characters. I personally don't think story is so important. I've been modelling in blender but it's incredibly obnoxious to try to animate anything on my system . I'm currently owning a laptop , an i7 2ghz, 8gbs of ram, a geforce 840m , and its really struggling to render. Should i try to make animations in Unreal engine and record them or is there a better way?

Do any of you /3/pots actually work in the industry? I managed to land my first job for some external and internal renders. What's your process for interacting with the client? Do you allow them to dictate all the finishes? What about the furniture? How often do you consult them via email? How long would it take you to do 1 external render of a house, and 2 interior, and how much would you charge?

Hey, Unity3D/UE4 developer without art skills here. Often I commission 3D modelers when there're no assets on the internet to use or buy, however, I'm having trouble finding someone that can properly model a kid character that looks anatomically correct rather than an uncanny adult midget. Why it's so difficult? Most artists have a really good artistic background and can model a realistic adult/animal without flinching, but as soon as they have to model a prepubescent male/girl, you can already sense they really don't have an idea how their bodies work, even in many AAA games. Unfortunately I'm a perfectionist, so I searched child model pictures on the internet to send them as reference, however, all I happen to find is barely legal pedo stuff that's too creepy to send them as references. I'm raging really hard, even Poser/Daz3D models don't look very anatomically correct desu. If there was such a thing as a 3D scanned child model without baggy clothes that covers them, I'd buy it asap and use that as a base model. I need them as less covered (the clothes will be added separately) and realistic as possible while keeping it legal and not creepy. If there're some T-pose photos from different angles that would be perfect. What would you suggest to do?

Hey guys, I'm starting to learn zbrush and I was wondering if i could get a few things from experienced modelers, if its not to much. First off, where do you get your concept art? Can anyone provide me with some concept art that would serve as good practice ffor a beginner. And lastly, long did it take you all to learn Zbrush? Any help is greatly appreciated.

so what do u guys think of gnomon? is it a good school? worth going there if you are serious about the industry? heard a lot of good things about it and heard some bad saying "not worth the money" but compared to other schools its pretty cheep. like in NYC SVA (art school) its like 65k per semester while gnomon is like 20k

How do i blow out my specular on purpose in Maya without having to do it in post? Like for a toon shader? See pic on how it looks vs how i want it. I want to make a toon specular material and then use a mask to put it on the shiny areas like the nose. I thought maybe i could take the color output from a black material with specular, stick it through a multidivide node with a high value and then feed that in to another material, but i just get black with no specular:(. Any help would be great <3.

Hi guys! I just finished binge watching daredevil season 2! What a ride! Anyway, I went looking for some 3D models and I stumbled across and article on Kotaku: http://kotaku.com/marvel-heroes-is-a-great-place-to-work-out-your-post-da-1765918747 This is the best and most detailed model of Netflix daredevil I've seen. How can I get two particle systems to attract particles from their same system and repel particles from the other system? I tried using charge and a negative field weight for charge, but that just causes the force to cease.

What's the deal with gamma correction? It makes sense that doing linear math with non-linear assets produces wrong results, but what is the correct way to prevent this? For instance, should textures be non-linear, and converted to linear during rendition, or should textures be converted to linear beforehand and thus look dark in an editor? Does the former approach preserve more resolution?

I haven't seen too many threads about school for 3d and animation. I'm currently looking at animation colleges, specifically around chicago. I've only found depaul, columbia, and art institute to be legitimate in teaching animation and 3d stuff. I don't know about what online colleges are good, or what other places around here even teach animation bachelors. Any help and insight is appreciated from other animators on here.
