I have to make a CG interior more cartoonish. I've considered soft renders, like those in the settings seen in Star Wars The Clone Wars, but I'd like more ideas than that. Cel-shaded is an option, but I've yet to see it done in a way that isn't jarring when in motion. Can you suggest anything?

I don't want anyone to kill me for saying this, but I have been using blender for years and I have become a modeling master with it, I made the switch to Maya recently but so far I'm not liking the modeling and workflow. The first thing I didn't like was that there are no hot keys for any basic mesh operations, I had to set hotkeys for Extruding, Merging, Knife and Loop cuts. That takes care of one problem, but I still have others. Is there a way to select an edge loop via faces? I know you can double click an edge in edge mode and it will highlight the edgeloop, but can you have a loop of faces highlighted like you can in blender? also can you do it with vertices like you can in blender? Why cant I just delete Vertices? It keeps saying that the verticies have a complex edge attachment and i have to go use the delete edge/vertex button in the edit mesh menu? Why cant I just press the delete button and have it JUST WORK like it does in blender? can someone tell me what the button is to occlude background geometry? when i use a box select it selects verts behind the object, when i JUST want whats in sight. 1/2

And so I'm starting out with 3D in general with Blender 2.5+. Can someone tell me a good way to get started with this? I'm reading the wikibook Noob to Pro and it's just not "Noob" enough for me, mixing complicated topics in with intro level stuff and making it confusing and boring to read. "E is how you Extrude. W brings up Subdivisions. And I'm sure you already know what Catmull Clark Interpolation is so just do that." I'd like a tutorial that does it in order, introducing concepts before mentioning them, and maybe helping you learn by walking you through how to make a basic stick figure or something... I have been modelling on and off for ~6 months. Going through plenty of youtube tutorials and some forums. My aim is to eventually make some items for Dota 2. Following Dota2CharacterTextureGuide.pdf and looking at HellJumper's Blender 2.5 Modeling Tutorial for TF2 to bake Ambiant Occlusion has been going smoothly. Untill the Dota 2 guide suggests Point Light Map. After spending 2 days trying to find out how to bake/render this with no luck I looked around in blender. Changing the bake mode to shadow and then in the world tab untick AO and tick Environmetal Lighting and selecting white light, I have somthing that might resemble a point light map. My question is: I am a noob. Is this a point light map? Can some one point me in the right direction. Also 2.63

Does anyone here used Leonar3do? I have a class that's using it and the Bird system and from the hour I've used it so far it's pretty fucking cool and intuitive. It's hilarious watching someone else use it but it seems indispensable for rapid concept creation. Luckily we're going to be using it with 3DSMax so the final models don't look so janky.

So i just started using Blender and Unity, and every time I import something into Unity from blender it looks terrible. In blender it looks ok I guess, but the quality decrease tremendously when i imported to Unity. My first project that I have built from the ground up with my own concept and not just following a tutorial. Im working on SSS shader now for the skin. Its rendering at the moment but its taking a while. Ps. anyone know if it is possible to render certain materials with different Sample values from the lamps ? I need high samples for the clothing but only a quarter of the value for the skin. and rendering with the samples high takes a very long time for the skin and not the clothes. so it would be nice to not have to spend that time on parts that don't need it.

im new to the whole subdivision thing so bear with me here. i understand the basics but i had a quick question. on edges that are meant to be sharp, is it common practice to add an edge loop and move it closer to the edge like in pic1? if so, is moving it all the way onto the edge, essentially creating double vertices, ok to do like in pic2? or is it frowned upon?
