I've spent too much time trying to get this stupid shoulder to do what is suposed to do, and this is as close as I've got. What am I doing wrong? This shit is so stupid and time consuming and there seems to be no better tool than a fucking brush for painting. How does one achieve better results?

guys, what is the best way to create a whole house level in 3ds max? i tried creating the walls by using rectangle splines but i noticed there are a lot of problems that come with it. because i used Vertex snap to make sure the walls are even, now all the walls overlap each other and i cant really texture it. also cutting out windows and doors is a pain when trying to make it the right/even size so i can just kit bash my window and door assets.. any tips and advice are welcome.

I'm curious to hear some thoughts on this and how much overlap you think there is. I started out as a modeler/generalist but before I got to a professional level I switched to FX. I've been working in the industry now for a year as a Houdini FX artist at a big studio. FX can be very challenging and that part is fun and great, but I am yearning for more design and creative work vs being the guy making huge technical setups that take weeks and weeks. I would like to also work from home instead of going to a studio for 10 hours every day. Luckily my modeling exp will transfer easily to this modern world of concept design (think: people like maciej, ash thorpe, jama jurabev) but I am worried about FX. Do you see it helping at all? Is it a bad decision to begin to try to make this switch out of a successful career already? My skills would be as such: (lets assume 7/10 means I can do it at a studio and be paid) 3D modeling - 6/10 (Maya/Max) Lighting and Rendering - 7/10 (mantra and vray) Painting - 4/10 Nuke - 7/10 Houdini - 9/10 I would have to learn Substance, Modo or maybe just go right into Fusion, Keyshot, ESPECIALLY drawing and painting skills have to go up..and I guess id still love to keep using houdini for some stuff even if I am creating 2d concept images. Its hard to formulate a concise question, but im hoping i can put all this info out and just hear peoples thoughts. I feel I am a year of intense studying away to just put my work out there and hope I can freelance from home as a concept designer, and while its scary to leave my successful houdini fx artist career i am 25 years old so its not that bad. I would need to focus on drawing skills the most. I just dont want to throw away the last years of my life of learning houdini ya know? I wonder if theres any concept guys out there that do use houdini for stuff.. Thanks guys. Maybe someone has already made the switch and can let me know whats up.

Hey /3/, How do I into UVmapping on this mask that I'm making? I'm not too sure where to begin because of it is cloth (the bottom part) and it has a lot of rounded areas that connect into the mask itself. I used autopo in 3Dcoat and the outcome I thought was alright, but I think it has too many polygons....

Or the mouse will just remain clicked for 5 minutes regardless of what mouse is plugged in. I spend 8 hours a day working on the Mac Pro Shit Heap "Yosemite" bullshit. Mac interface is the most cancerous shit on the planet, half the time the fucking "finder" just disappears. i thought I'd just get used to it after two weeks of working here, but opened up some work files from home today on my old ass PC, only to feel like I'm back on a real computer and not some fisher price tricycle.

Hey guys, pls help. I keep getting this list of errors after I rebuild the lighting in UE4. all of them having something to do with "overlapping UVs" I don't understand what that means and how to fix it... how are my UVs overlapping? since there is nothing complex on my scene i simple unwraped it all by adding a "uv map" on it setting it to plane, box or cylinar (depending on what the object is) then adjusting the gizmo to fit the texture. is that wrong?

The level design and amount of detail in the levels is just fucking insane, from the celing to the floor. They are just riddled with such a variety of good looking assets, some of the best I've seen actually. Did anybody else in here just take a break to inspect everything? I get that they have a pretty big team, but I still want to appreciate how good everything looks.
