Im moving from from 3DS Max to Maya and im having a hard time trying to find some of my most used tools in maya. Hey peeps, I'm a motion graphic artist and wanting to take my career to the next level and possibly generate income through bringing my art to life by 3d printing. I've been thinking for awhile about making 3d jewlerry/figures for people to wear or for home decor and was just wondering if anyone has experience from doing this and if it's possible to make a career out of it. I've been modeling 3d for awhile now and was wandering if it's worth while opening a online store on artistic websites such as etsy and sell my creations? Also wandering if it is possible to print polished metal I want to work low budget so don't mind if it's silver or not I just want people to be able to afford my artwork but to also have the look of a almost mirrored silver. Can anyone recommend me any good websites/companies that 3d print metals I'm also living in Australia at the moment if anyone knows of any companies in Australia that would be awesome aswell. I have lots of ideas and would really like to turn my ideas into a possible future career

I'd like to learn how to paint my models but I don't know where to start. I tried to follow some youtube tutorials about hand painting but uno I couldn't find enough material on the topic dos even though I can mimic their work I can't paint anything on my own. Guys, im noob here and need help. Normal maps are used to transfer the high poly information to the low poly mesh, right? Like scars on a character skin, his own skin, those little details... But say, i have a 3d car model. And the car haves a super smooth surface. Almost like a mirror. So my question is: will normal map affect in something when applied in the super smoothed car surface? I mean theres no heigh in something so thin and smoothed....

Hey guys, I am a graphic designer that's been learning C4D for the last year and I have some questions about 3rd party renderers. Basically when I have tried out demos I found that it was a pain in the ass to have to transpose an existing scene to a scene that a particular renderer could understand, you know with the arnold materials, and arnold lights, etc. I did see that you can use octane and arnold just to have a super-fast high quality render in a preview window which may be nice for modeling, but I dont think GI is essential for modeling and that was the main speed advantage I noticed. It seems some of these renderers are designed to shorten render times and some are to create visually superior renders that supposedly the native physical and software renderers in C4D can't even compare to. My real questions here is when you consider all of the slider tweaking to reduce grain, and the time it takes to learn how to use renderer specific materials and lights, and the high cost, are the advantages really worth it? I just want to cut render times down when it comes to GI, not try to drastically improve the way renders look btw.

Hello /3/ how fucked am i if i would create a patreon campagne offering videos and free downloads to a software that i wrote myself that contains edited lewd and sexy models of different games like for example overwatch?Most of those models are also available on steam for source filmmaker. Im currently doing this for fun and i edited a lot of models from different games. I also made some videos and people really liking it and asking me for comissions and stuff. Thats why im really thinking about creating a patreon campagne for this project, the thing is that i know that is kinda legal to create art out of other art if it is altered in a certain degree. There was also this case in the US in the 70s where an comicartist drew mickey mouse in sexual intercourse and get sued by disney. But disney lost this case. Is doing this some kind of grey-zone or are i in serious trouble if i do such stuff? Also the patreon model is a bit questionable in this case because its more like a tip to the creator then selling a product.

I am making this guy for a personal project and I am in the process of texturing. He is supposed to look spooky and possibly undead. Porblem is I can't really tell if the skin too dark? I like the dark dirty looking skin but at the same time i want him to be pale, but i dont want him to feel too pale/clean either. I tried making his skin lighter and making the eyesocketsand other areas dark but that just felt weird with too much contrast in the skin colors. Can i get some constructive feedback?

I been doing some snooping around in linkdin, looking at the employees in different game studios and i noticed that almost everyone works at studios 1-2 years on average than goes to another studio, than works there for 1-2 or 2-3 years than goes to another studio? why is that? do they get fired or do they get better job offers somewhere else, because i noticed few people became Senior artists or art directors after leaving 1 studio. I also noticed that people working at Blizzard, stay working at blizzard for like up to 9 years even (blizzard opened in 2004 so that almost from the start) why is that?
