General photogrammetry/scanning experiences and tips post Any photogrammetry people here? I've been trying out digital scans, found that Agisoft Photoscan is the best. But I'm having trouble capturing detailed models. The figure on the left is a mostly matte figurine i'e been trying to scan for a few days. However, I think because she's block patches of colour, and maybe a little glossy, the program is having difficulty finding points to match. So my point clouds are pretty sparse. Other simpler models (see turtles) have worked out fine. I think I'm gonna paint it matt today. Has anyone painted a model before for scanning?

Joystick like 3D Animation controls

I noticed this thing for After Effects https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMznIbcTZjc and wasn't sure if it exists in 3D applications. I've seen allot of 3D animation control sliders but no "joystick" style controllers which IMO seems like a step forward. For comparison one of the more complex items i've seen is this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xP9GV_h4b4 Anim school rig which i'm not sure is native to the 3D application used or a plugin they created. Even their rig doesn't have the "joystick" style controls.

/3/, what do you find yourself making when you just want to blow people's minds with how "skilled" you are? I have an assignment to simply make a high-poly model of something, and I'm just wondering what's something I could do that would basically scream "wow look at me, I made this hard to make thing and I'm amazing because of it" without it actually being that difficult to do. Right now I'm thinking maybe a realistic bust of an old man head or something, but that's so boring. I'm still thinking.

I don't get it. There's an almost fully featured 3DS Max 2004 floating about on the internet as abandonware, yet nobody ever bothered to hack it and patch file export into it? Gmax thread

Hey guys, I have a quick question. I have a bunch of 2d animated assets I want to use in a mobile game, any idea what it'd cost me to have them possibly converted to 3d models?

Guys, im new to 3D modeling, im mostly messing around with it for unrelated projects (papercraft, google cardboard apps, complementing 2D animation) so i'm not looking for tutorials or anything, what i need is: what's the most lightweight software? i use maya (2013?) on my desktop but it's kinda overkill for what im doing and i'd also like to be able to work on my laptop which would suffer trying to run maya. All i need is to be able to modify or create .OBJ files, and maybe something about setting the MTL texture thingy properly.. and that's it. Thanks in advance

>I've wanted to get into 3D modeling for a long time >Have made numerous attempts to learn, utilizing books, videos, and online tutorials >Even if I foolow the instructions exactly, something inevitably goes wrong that I can't figure out >I obviously cannot ask a book or a video file for help >"Maybe I'll see if there are any places that teach 3D modeling in-person around here." >Can't find anything advertised online except one website offering a $1000 one-day course in my city I don't know what to do. I still have 3DS Max and Maya installed and I want to try again, but I'm afraid I'm just going to have the same issues. I wish I could find somewhere to get in-person training.

so people here wanted me to ramp up the difficulty up a bit. this is quite a common thing for hard surface modelers. it has alot of detail but the shape is rather easy so here is the deal. >bonus points for clean geo and UV >bonus points for texture >bonus points for good render google rpg 7 to get reference. youtube have alot of closeup videos too you have until Saturday, best of luck

Are there any architects / architecture students here? What would you recommend me for making renderings of interior and exterior images? I need to make my project better. I heard Cinema4D is powerful but I know people here use Maya more but usually for other stuff.

Did it feel overwhelmed at first?

Seeing all these techniques and terminologies like UV maps, mesh, bone rigg, ect. Did you feel overwhelmed going into 3D modeling?

can someone troubleshoot this please, because i cant figure out how to fix this. Im trying to use GoZ from Zbrush 4R7 -> Maya 2016 but its not working, I have no problem bringing in models from Maya to Zbrush, but nothing from Zbrush to pay. I read that you need to install MentalRay for maya, I did and its still not working. any ideas?
