I have a degree in Computer Animation back in 2008 but the past years have been rough, so it put me on hold for a long time. I'm getting back into creating again, and adding into the portfolio. Will try to get into the industry through indie projects, and concentrating on modeling and sculpting portfolio. Problem is, I'm worried about my age and where I'm at in life right now, I believe I can get to the point I want to in this career. But, right now it's scary and exciting, unsure of my talent. Feel like I'm starting over. Just writing this to see what others might think... Bachelors FA. This "San Miguel” scene was modeled and then rendered in pbrt by Guillermo M. Leal Llaguno, based on a hacienda that he visited in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. The scene was modeled in 3ds max and exported to the pbrt file format with a custom script written by Guillermo. The scene features just over 2.5 million unique triangles and has a total geometric complexity of 10.7 million triangles due to the use of object instancing; the pbrt files that describe the scene geometry require 620 MB of on-disk storage. There are a total of 354 texture maps, representing 293 MB of texture data. Final rendering of the cover image at 1496 by 2235 resolution using pbrt took over 40 hours of computation on an eight-core Mac Pro computer.

What upsets you in 3d? For me is people that sucks dicks of another artist. Theres a group where you post your 3d works, and theres some nice artist there. But the thing is, when someone post some nice 3d model, well made and polished, it getd like 40 - 50 likes, and comments like "cool", "oh nice"," well done". And for some unknown reason, theres that guy who posts mid tier 3D models, and gets 140 likes, and people comment "WOOOW, AMAZINNG", "PERFECT MODEL MAAAN" Wtf? Its like.... what? By the way this isnt my story, but i see shit like this happens a lot in the 3d community, and it grinds my gear

Hey /3/, any smoothing-group experts here? I've started experimenting with them to see if I can smooth out from as low-poly an origin as possible, but I'm not sure what my workflow should be going towards the normal bake... I've not finished the base mesh yet, but anyway... here's the lo-poly....

If I wanted to simulate the glossy/ old look of Donkey Kong Country how it looked on the snes, what shaders would be most appropriate for it? Say, for instance, if I were doing an HD remake of the game with full 3d models instead of 2D pre rendered images like back then. What would make it look most accurately like it did in its cg images? I'll post more for references.
