/3/, I need assistance. I'm a long time Maya user, but I want and need to switch to a different DCC package. Thing is, there are very few that are both user friendly and affordable. I want to purchase legally, because I need to make money with it. I am currently considering Lightwave 2015. It's lacking a few features that I'd like to have, but it's only $600 right now. I'm also considering MODO Indie, which is $300, but the reviews on steam scare me, frankly. Apparently, the 10 series of the program crashes constantly. I don't know whether to believe that or not, but it's enough to worry me. Can anyone recommend a good package under $1000 -THAT IS NOT BLENDER-, or give honest and accurate reviews of MODO indie, particularly it's performance on Windows 10? I would just go to Blender, but the rigging workflow (rigging, not skinning) just turns my brain off.

Instead of making a new thread every time I have a problem, thought I'd make a thread like this anyone can use. Anyway, beginner here, following a tutorial. Can someone explain the problem in this webm? I don't get it. The UV Wrap is on the manually painted layout, yet the texture remains black. Also, I was island selecting on the UV Layout in the second half of the webm, and for some reason, it only selected individual faces. When I initially unwrapped (last night), I unwrapped as "Smart UV Project" for the first time, and it worked just fine; I could island select the whole thing, and when I painted the map, I could see it in material mode. However, ever since saving, exiting, then reloading the next day, it's become broken and I have no understanding of why. I was following this tutorial (fast forward to 17:30): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WBLj1Y8fBA and I followed it exactly, even with the same Blender file.

So i was having an issue with maya i use to use 2016 and when i rendered a model with Lambert material it would be fine but if i did it with a texture over it then its a no go it renders black. But if i do it with the texture as a targa file its all good it dose what it has to but i need to do fast processes not make targa files and place them need be. I am an indie dev and just trying to get it to work im using Maya 2017 now using Arnold and still getting same results.
