How much do you guys really expect to make from 3D?
I'm taking a year off right now, finished off my first two years. I'm going back with or without changing my major, but man my options are fucking limited. It's down to painting/illustration/3d. Gonna spend 6 fuckin years in college wasting 200k for a 4 year program. Jesus fuck what have I done.
First during highschool I get told that concept art is only for the absolute rockstar talents, so I go for 3D. Turns out, if you're not into moving bars side to side all day, you can sculpt/model, but only if you're among the top rockstar talents.. again
I do some research and find that some 3d modelers/sculptors make upwards of 60-80k not that late into their careers, this seemed promising, but later realized that it was faulty information.
So what am I supposed to do? Fix rigs all day? Edit shaders for the rest of my life? Because apparently lighting is reserved to geniuses as well.
the fuck /3/.
the fuck have I gotten myself into
what the flipping fuck

So, hi /3/, I've been trying to learn zbrush and for the love of my life can't figure out what probably is a very simple thing. I'm trying to export normal/displacement maps from a sculpted plane and it's coming out all wrong, the disp map is empty and the normal map is scaled down so it doesn't match the UVs, pic related.
Here's what I'm doing exactly
>export a plane with UVs from 3ds (I need specific dimensions) and import it as a tool in zbrush
>subdivide it a few times with smoothing off and sculpt a bit on it, nothing crazy or very shape-changing
>go back to the lowest subdiv level
>click "Create DispMap" and "Create NormalMap"
I've been searching around and looking at related tutorials, but I have no clue how to fix it. pls help
