Hi guys , I have a problem here. Whenever I try to select one vertex , it selects the one next to it. My soft selection is off and when I try to move them into one direction , they both go into opposite directions. The only help I found by googling is people sayign that it's soft selection , which it's not. Shit's weird.

This is my current progress, I started from a cube to form the head and then with some extrudes, rotates and loop cuts I managed to get a humanoid I'm fairly happy with for my first try. I need to make a Helmet and Suit I guess but have no idea how to go about it. Do I make them separate and place them over my model or do I edit the model itself to give some detail/shape before applying textures? Any help/advice is welcomed, still very new and would love to have him looking somewhat like a soldier so I can rig him up and have him doing a walk cycle

Aspiring product designer here, I usually get away with modeling in SolidWorks and rendering in Keyshot but if I were to look into other software specifically made for the rendering phase of a model, where should I go? I heard modo is nice, but don't really have a gauge for anything else out there.
