Hey /3/d Listen. I need your help. It's kind of off-topic but .. i hope you dont mind. I know a guy. He talks alot of bullshit ,talk alot about making his own 3D stuff, saying "IF I GOT THE RESOURCES I COULD TO SOMETHING BETTER THAN AVATAR!" ect. Well, this guy send me 2 screenshots of "his" work. I'm Pretty sure this models arent his work, and the textures too. It looks like he stole it from Alien Vs. Predator or something. I just want to know, is he talking bullshit about his skills ? What are some techniques /3/ might use for creating textures in a game that only allows for a diffuse map? I've always hated texturing, so I've just been trying to generate as much texture as I can through modeling. Combinations of ambient occlusion and lit and shaded color maps in maya (pic related), so far have been decent. I've heard a little bit about also using displacement maps for this as well, but integrating them into a texture just never looks very good.

Is Graphic Design a career? I know by first hand it is a very stressful job. But the skills you need to be a graphic designer have been toning down ever since the computer was able to do everything, I mean back in the shit ol' days you had to design typography, posters and all that shit by hand. Being a typographist was basically a career on its own. Now everything is automated, so to speak. Color theory, composition, a bit of linguistics, basic high school psychology and lots and lots of references and bam, you're set. Of course a 'pure' graphic designer nowadays is useless. You need to learn Motion Graphics, VFX, Web development to stay relevant.

Hey /3/ So, a few months back, I applied for a job. It was posted as a position for a rapid prototyping specialist, basically overseeing creating prototype models for regional architecture firms. I thought I fit the description perfectly. Ran an RPC for a few years, have an architecture degree, am a 3d modeler, etc. I applied, and about a week later, I got a rejection letter. Impressive qualifications, sorry no dice, they found someone better suited. Ok, fine. At least they got back to me, right? Just a few days ago, I see that the exact same posting has been put up again on the same job board. What's going on here? I'm still underemployed (freelancing sucks yo). Does this mean that the person they found was fired or something? Or some shady business? Should I just ignore it? They are a real firm, I looked them up when I applied to them.

You guys probably don't like the idea of subscribing to a paid online tutoring site, but I'm in a situation where I need to be pushed in terms of training (Jobless, break from school for an extended period) and just fyi my expensive school has a fairly shoddy 3D department, so learning anything online will be a decent learning experience for me. I'm looking for some input on Digital Tutors and 3D Buzz specifically before I subscribe, because every review I've seen online are around 2-8 years old. Hi /3/ I'm learning how to rig, skin and animate in Autodesk Maya. I watched some tutorials and now it's time to test 'em on my eva01 model (pic related) Here comes the problem: The components are not completely attached (and must be not). Some parts need to be skinned and deformed, others should just "float" around, while being still controlled by the skeleton but without deformation. How can I do that (mixing the two methods on the same skeleton)? Thank you
