I'm fairly new to 3d modelling, and I'm having an issue. I'm not sure if this is a setting i have misplaced or an issue with 3dsmax 2012 itself, but the cut tool refuses to cut into the polygon. I want to make new vertices to more easily shape the object in question, and then cut them in to quads. however the cut tool is only letting me select the outer edge of the object - the only exception to this rule is if I create some vertices on the inside and then cut to them, but I can still not cut to the edges on the inside of the polygon, only the vertices I make. It's gotten quite frustrating, google doesnt seem to know what the problem is, so I'm hoping someone here will. this object in question is an editable poly, supposedly anyway.

Hello /3/ I need your help. I'm using ZBrush 4R6 and after sculpting for maybe 15-20 mins my CTRL-Z key will no longer undo the last operation. Only fix I have is to load a primitive, convert it to a polymesh before reloading my proper mesh. Any help?

Tl;dr: why isn't this rendering properly? I modelled this is autocad and brought it into 3ds max to render. As far as I can tell it's to scale and I've assigned the materials I want. This render is just with a target light and free light but it renders with this flat, shitty style (pic related) and I can't seem to fix it after trying different cameras and lighting setups. Any potential solutions? Thanks in advance.

Lets run some numbers. How much do you make per month? Freelance or fulltime job? How hard it is for you to find new work/new job. How long did it take you to get from modeling dragon dildos for fun to professional 3d modeler? What kind of modelling you do? How good are your life prospects? Is it something you are planning to do for the rest of your life? I'm currently professional web developer, but i did plenty of IT stuff back in the day, servers, databases, networks, graphics. All mostly on slightly under midtier level. I do websites now because it's easy and fun for me, gets me enough money too. But looking at 3D, applying everything i know about IT business, i think it might be a prospective line of career. I'm a quick learner so if its something that i could possibly master in a year or two (while having fulltime job), i would look forward to it.

not that I'd do it, but is it possible to do low-poly art in zbrush? can you still do the traditional mesh editing if you wanted to? or is it just a matter of sculpting and zremeshing then adjusting afterwards in another program? I like the tools in zbrush that allow for hard surfaces,what about hard surfaces as a result of low poly counts? or do the tools require a minimum amount of polygons to properly operate? Sorry for the pleb question. I'm just curious about using zbrush like a traditional mesh editor. i know it's not meant to be used as such, so please don't bite my head off about it.

so /3/ I'm currently working on a render of earth with the sun in the background, and now I've got a question. As you can see in the picture the back side is dark, but I want to add a different texture with lights where ever the directional light does not hit. I tried surf.lumminance with a reverse node on the color gain of my file on duplicated sphere, but no dice. Anyone got any idea?

I have a model with a bunch of different outfits in Blender. I want to change the proportions and some details on the body, but I also want all of the different outfits to be affected. How can I do this? It's okay if they don't exactly fit, but I don't want to have to completely reshape every outfit. I thought of using the Mesh Deform modifier, but it didn't work well at all even though the clothing is mostly skin tight. Am I doing something wrong with it? I feel like it should work better than this. I tried precision from 1-9 but nothing worked(at least half of the mesh remains unbound). It feels like my only option may be to put them all in the same object and use proportional editing, but that will make things a gigantic mess and I'd really prefer not to do that. If I could hide the outfits' visibility while still editing them, that could work. Lattice isn't really an option for the changes I want to make.

Hey /3/! Just a question. I never used a tablet before and I was thinking of getting Cintiq 13HD. Is it advisable to go immediately to this kind of tablet? I heard some people say start with intuos first but im not even sure what difference it makes. In max, is there a way to make it so that in edit poly, when I have a vertex/edge/poly selected, I can use _ + click and drag to create a new adjacent vertex/ edge or extruded polygon? Manually going and clicking a face, going to extrude, then extruding is a pain in the ass.
