I'm working in Sculptris and I have multiple objects. One is a reference figure and the other is a sculptris sphere which I am using to sculpt some clothing. I love working in Sculptris for making a quick proto-form which I will do the finishing touches on in another program. What frustrates me is working with two objects in the program because when you accidentally touch your reference object while sculpting your subject object it switches to working on the reference object. Masking the reference object doesn't seem to stop it from being selected. Can you set an object in Sculptris so it can't be selected at all?

ok guys, rate me. :3 I know my skills aren't top tier, but today I did my first baby compositing on After Effects, it felt really good. Compositing is amazing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnMtMzpe7_8&feature=youtu.be Please rate, don't hate. I was trying to learn stuff while doing that video and I wanted an opinion. Right now I feel motivated, I want to start making animations like japanese guys. I know it needs face topology and the textures kind of suck. I promise to work on that. What do you think of the model mesh? It looks ok? BTW I can't animate with cycles because I'm the guy with Intel celeron 430 + 1 gb ram. What do you guys recommend for animation? Maya vs Max. Which one allow for easier rigging and has tools for facial expressions? Should I render each character and prop on his own .avi so I can composite them in after effects/premiere? Why Sony vegas is so picky with importing files? (I had to use virtual dub as avi encoder). Should I work with Premiere or Sony Vegas? What software do you recommend for: - Texturing and UV. - Prop creation and background generation (stuff like trees for toon animations). Should I use Bones Pro with Max? Are there good alternatives to the Max plugins the software company that creates Bones Pro makes? What's the diference between Nuke and After effects? Why should I learn Nuke? How bout Houdini? Real flow? Marmoset toolbox? What other software should I learn? Can I render Toon characters with V-ray? What do you recommend?

should i make an account with sketchfab? it looks like devientart for 3D artist with the added bonus to be able to present the entire scene, just not that much of a big community right now, which makes me wonder (supicious) why that is. http://sketchfab.com/browse/faved

>3d artists You are lazy as hell. You move verts around, maybe for 4 quality hours a day. The rest - well, you say you have to warm up first, by jerking off. You fucking disgust me. Prove that any of this is wrong, i double dare you.

Geneva Drive 3D Model

0 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: Cara kerja Geneva Drive.gif]
I am new to 3d. I am attempting to construct model of a geneva drive, similar to the one in this picture, in Blender. I tried making the maltese cross with bezier curves, but this is not working out well, as everything has to be very precise in order for the drive to work correctly. If anyone has any advice on how to go about this, or any tutorials that you think I may find helpful it would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance

I'm interested in buying a tablet for Zbrush because using a mouse I think is pretty difficult and I'm wanting to get serious with Zbrush. I went to Wacoms website and they don't have any Bamboo tablets. Is it because they are outdated? Originally I was looking into the Wacom Bamboo Capture tablet but then I stopped modeling for a while and now I'm back into it. I also saw the Intuos Pen tablets, specifically the Wacom Intuos Pen and Touch Medium Tablet (CTH680) $200 max is my price range. How are these compared to the bamboo tablets Does anyone have any experience with both? Also, general tablet thread.

Edge collapse loop in Blender. Where did it go? What replaced it? What the fuck? I used this ALL THE TIME. Constantly. It was so useful. And yet when I google it, there are no results. It says it was replaced by dissolve but it doesn't work the same at all. Currently I find myself switching back to an earlier version constantly just to use it. Am I really the only one who used this or is there an equivalent tool I'm not noticing? Also, is there a way to reposition an edge loop cut before you place it so you don't stretch your UVs? It's very irritating that I can make any cut I please with no UV damage with the knife tool but not loop cut. I see that there is a "correct UVs" option(although it's hidden inside the keyboard config...) but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Maya to Mudbox

If I am planning on retopologizing later, do I need to unwrap my UVs before sending my mesh over to Mudbox for sculpting?

I'm not sure if I'm on the wrong board for this but recently I installed Maya for my little brother. his friend taught him the very basics but now I'm looking for some good tutorials for him so he can continue on his own. the only problem is he's only 12 and he can barely understand english, which makes it hard for him to understand what keys to press and that kind of stuff so are there any decent beginner tutorials that make it obvious what keys to press by highlighting the cursor and/or showing on the screen what buttons to press? a text based tutorial would probably also work since I could just google translate the text for him pic almost related, he's using maya 2013

attempting to add curve

So, I'm attempting to add a curve to the area marked out in Green and i can't seem to find a tool because doing it manually can look sloppy and i don't want to spend hours trying to make it look perfect.

ok guys, since I have an intel celeron 430 + 1GB RAM I can't work on zbrush since when I save, the software crashes. So, what cheap alternative do I have? Are the traditional ways still doable in today's world? I'm talking Blenderella style. So, in another note, what are the cheapest and fastess way to make animations today? I'm talking about making 30 min on one week. What tricks, tips, shortcuts, cheats do you know. I was thinking about low poly backgrounds, with simple shapes and colors. Of course we're talking about getting the best quality for the cheapest fucking china slave price. What software? What cheats?

Why is subtlety so hard in animation (or art in general)? Be it 2D or 3D, I honestly can't figure out the words to put when describing (either to myself or others) why subtlety is so hard to achieve. It's one of those things, details or blatantly, where being slightly off ruins the entire the feel and experience for the viewer.
