For school we are supposed to make a big project so a friend and I thought it'd be fun to 3d model our school. Now my question is what is the best program to do that? I've looked around a bit and I think ArchiCAD is supposedly the best one. anyone here who can give me some more info about this? I don't care about the price or anything ;) The only catch is that we are not experienced in this ^^ Oh and if you guys have other cool ideas for a project, please tell me.

I'm transitioning from max to modo and I'm super confused, I even think it might be a bug but: When I want to edit something (like I wanted to enter edit poly in max) do I HAVE to select it in the item list? When I click on the screen in items mode I cannot select anything. Only instances (why the fuck). I never 'froze' anything and I don't even know how to do it here.

So I am buidling a shitty game with 35 shitty people, now I am a level designer and shit is fucked up. We work in the UDK engine. When I play the cooked version the player dies when he is teleported to another level.

In Engineering we insist that 3 dimensions are nowhere even the start of it all. So we cross hatch, use pretty colours, make multiple graphs, and still barely anyone can figure it out. What if I told you that we should be designing in infinite dimensions at once, and that the entire Cartesian system was based on a source code error that fails to take into account the entire female/create side of the mind?-->???????? Maybe you've seen the fractals... maybe you were high... maybe you were stone cold sober! I have solved for the error in binary logic.

Hey /3/, I am new to the 3d world and started watching a lot of tutorials, I decided to put some of my newly aquired knowledge to work and so I made a room in 3ds max. It is the first real scene that ive tried putting together (relatedpic). Since you guys have a lot of experience in 3d i was wondering if you could help me with SOME things. I dont need your advice on everything in the scene yet, since there is too much things going completely wrong. I would need some tips and advice on really specific things to begin: The ceiling light: I tried to make it look like theres a light inside a frosted glass lamp, obv not working. Good tips on how to do that? Tutorials? Wall color: To get a very realistic wall, do i need to mess with the bump map? Is there a "standard" amount of reflection that everybody uses for paint on walls? Floor bump map: It looks like my bump map only reacts to the lighting that i get from the environnement and not the light that is projected on the ground from the skylight. What am i not doing? Bed: Can i make a fabric-like material without using a texture or photoshop? Thank you alot for your feedback, youll probably see me around, gonna need to fix alot of things on that scene..

Obvious noob here. What is the best software to make 3d models of automobiles (for stills only, no animation)? I know there is no "best" software but what do you recommend? I already have zBrush, Blender, and Rhino, but can acquire any other program.

Sorry if this is a retarded question or the answer is really obvious but I'm doing some low poly house modeling for an assignment I have coming up. When modeling a part of it and rendering it to check for the smoothing, I noticed there was a black line on both edges of it. I assumed I had messed up somewhere and there somehow were 2 sets of edges with a small gap inbetween. I checked and there was only one edge there. II tried breaking up the vertices and rewelding but that ended up doing nothing. I looked around my model and noticed there were a couple of edges with the same problem in various spots. The weirdest thing is, the line shows up in Scanline but not in Mentalray. Do you guys have any clue what might be happening or what I might be doing wrong?

Dear 3DCG Professionals. Im a newbie modeler (for hobby) I started with MILKSHAPE and now using BLENDER. Im pretty happy by Blender i can make houses.. Trees desks weapons chairs all etc. EXCEPT LIVING THINGS like people ,dog,cat etc etc i really like animes and i tought why not into a lowpoly anime girl...Problems came here im really bad at making human bodies and i have no shitclue about how to do it. Searched for good tutorials but all i can found is real women body what i think is really hard for me. You guys seen this? I'm not a Blender fag since I have to use 3ds Max at work, but this tutorial makes me want to laugh my shit out what can be done in Blender nowadays. I mean in positive sense of course - with the quality of renderings this guy is showing you must be an idiot to still use 3ds + Vray or any other commercial shit for doing pack shots. I really look forward to his interior tutorial as the preview looks quite decent.
