Can't figure it out

Okay guys. I've been trying to figure out what I've been doing wrong, but I can't seem to export a rigged model with it's bones from 3DS Max to DAZ, Poser, or Blender. Any time I import the same model into 3DS its a textureless model with bones, but I can't do anything with them because it says they're not part of the bind/pose definition. Exporting just sends it as a textureless model, or if I'm lucky it'll export the textures, but it's still immovable...I don't know how to use all of them entirely.

In this video, http://youtu.be/DaNME0aCDWU, Maya is shown to have many interesting tricks for modeling development, like symmetric editing. Is this attainable with Wings 3D?
What are the steps after making a model?
Any good tutorials of developing a top down 2D game? Specifically.. would be great to watch making characters and putting that to controls.
Would it be simple enough to just make a 3D top down game? 3D models are pretty simple to match to a reference, but 2D models take actual artistry.
Also, is it quite helpful that space games require the least asset development and would they be a good in to a completed project? Are free engines actually limited in features? Kerbal Space Program was made in Unity.
