Right guys. I'm trying to get back into 3d modelling and I'm having a hard time sculpting lips in zbrush! I can't get a smooth look at all and it ends up a jagged mess! Any tips would be appreciated thanks

I got a more streamlined workflow

1 open google and search for lips
2 sketch in lips shapes
3 flesh them out and realize it looks like ass
4 sketch in again this time pay more attention
5 refine till lips

basically you got 3 shapes you want to look for, upper lip, lower lip and cheeks, chin nose etc is also there but who cares

bottom lips flow to the sidesm upper taper off into a triangle and cheeks come in at a angle, keep those shapes more or less in there and it will look like lips.

and have refs ready

The edges of those lips could cut someone.

point was to show lips curvature you can smooth it out f you want, still I find it helps having stronger guides when sculpting and understanding the forms you want to catch

Sculpting a vague mouth shape, sure, sculpting a GOOD mouth is a different story. You mouths are very average Alioto, lot of improvements can be made on your forms there and how they flow.

What is "GOOD" and what flowing forms are you talking about?

Take a look at slocdick's lips then look at yours...
Understanding how the bottom lip flow under the top. Understanding the differences in volume, understanding how they flow up into the nose and to the cheeks, and also understanding how the fine details on the lips should look that really helps sell them.

Getting your topology down before detailing them is the most helpful way. That way you can properly pinch/crease the edges and use subdivision levels to keep the lid curves smooth.
