First, let's look at this from Oda's point of view. He never kills characters. Especially villains. The only ones that die are in flashbacks (and it's very clear that they're dead!) Now, some smartass is gonna comment "but Ace and Whitebeard!!" No, Monet is NOWHERE as significant as those two. Ace and Whitebeard's deaths changed an era. Monet's adds nothing to the story. Nothing changes. We're still talking about Ace and Whitebeard because they're that important! Nobody's gonna talk about Monet (unless she returns?)
There's a 1 out of 3 chance you can survive a heart stabbing. And since this is One Piece those odds should at least double... I argue that Vergo is alive too. The explosion wouldn't kill him. It honestly would make it easier for him to reattach his body. His haki is also strong enough to defend himself from the gas. We saw Luffy's armament saved him. Vergo could have assisted Monet.
Monet also has some unfinished plotlines. She's taking notes surrounded by books every time we see her until the Straw Hats are captured. One of them is an astronomy book. Perhaps she has an interest in space since she also got Law to attach wings to her? Her intentions are also unclear. She tells Luffy that Doflamingo will kill her if she fails, yet she sacrifices herself to let him be Pirate King. She also let's Chopper escape to help the children, but then nearly bites his head off.
Her character is very unclear and so far serves no greater purpose by dying. Death makes no sense and it seems like she have more in store in the future...
