Hi /an/, Some of my adult cat's claws are very thick (pic related) where I cannot even trim them properly especially since I'm afraid of splitting his claw. Is there anything I can do about this? I don't want them becoming ingrown.

Slater and earwig traps

We've put in a new strawberry bed just this year and it has been fruiting well. The only trouble is that the fruit becomes beset with slaters and earwigs, mostly slaters. Almost every fruit is ruined before we get a chance to pick it. Does anyone have any good traps for slaters and earwigs? We've tried beer traps, and molasses/yeast traps. Are there any other effective ways to catch and kill slaters and earwigs?

Where the hell do you go to buy really obscure (non parrot) bird species? I hear about all these softbills in the trade, but where are people buying and selling them? I can find communities and whatnot for exotic mammals, rare fish and reptiles, but nothing for birds.

Woke up this morning and my cat's right eye is barely opening. Doesn't seem to be watering at all but the side of it seems swollen. Is it okay to take him to the vet tomorrow or is it more of a pressing matter? sorry for the large file, took it off my phone

Do many of you anons actually have careers working with animals? Did you become desensitized to seeing them in pain over time? I've always loved the idea of a job working with them but around them I have the emotional fragility of the eHarmony cat lady.

Hi /an/! Anyone here have experience with medical alert dogs? I really want to get a puppy and train it to alert me of impending migraines, (Which have become debilitating over the past few years) but since I live in an apartment and probably will for the next 10 years, I need a small dog, preferably 30 pounds or less. I'd also like for it to be able to do /out stuff with me like hiking, etc. Any breed suggestions? It seems like most medical alert dogs or service dogs are the size of golden retrievers or larger.

Hello looking for a botanist, can you identify where these trees are from? I'm trying to find the location of where this picture was taken, someone suggested Mariana, FL and Bratt, FL. Can you confirm the location of these trees?

Hey guys, how goes your ant keeping? Have you started hibernating your ants yet? If not you're a shitlord. How was your season? For those with tropical ants, how is it going so far? Here is my Camponotus Pennsylvanicus colony I have had since the spring. Caught the queen in my back yard. This picture is from a while ago, and I have more. So far she is up to 50-60 workers, and about 30 larvae in diapause. Just put them in the basement this weekend. Will probably take them out towards the end of February.

Kitten bite

My dogs found a little kitten on the porch and cornered it. It was screaming like a maniac...Got to it b4they killed it. Damn thing bit the ever loving crap out of me. Holy crap it hurt ...managed to control it enough to get it away from the dogs and It's calmed down now. It was just instinct to Try to help it. I wasn't expecting it to bite the crap out of me and go insane. My fault for not even thinking about that. Do I need to be concerned about these bites? I washed my hands up and did some ointment and bandaids. I got bit 5 times. 3 drew blood. Their teeth are just like little freaking needles so the bites are deep but small and barely noticeable, I have to keep a bandaid on them or they keep bleeding. Worried about cat mouth bacteria I guess.

I'm bored. I've got here a tennis ball inside a sock. I'm going to go out into the alley and throw it into the air until a bat flies into it; then I will capture the bat (of course using precautions to not get rabies like an idiot) and take pictures of it before releasing it. Tell me why this is a bad/good idea.

I've been considering getting a pet raccoon. They are legal here. I've read that they're destructive. I know they're not "tame" domesticated animals. Not getting one just for the cute and unique factor. I've considered it for years. I really want to know all the work that would go into one.

Okay so this is like the first time I'm posting on here and I'm not sure if there's a specific thread I should post in but I was hoping I could get some help here Basically, me and my family own a dog, about 4 years old, chihuahua mix. He's not super well trained but he listens and understands pretty much what you want and such He's always been sleeping in our beds, and doesn't mind if you pick him up, hold him in your arms or in your lap or whatever, he enjoys it, even if he's on his back Lately though he's been acting strange from time to time It started like a little over half a year ago, he started growling sometimes at my little sister. She's pretty loud and clumsy and sometimes not very careful with him, also since she's the youngest, we just assumed he was kinda trying to get a little higher in rank sort of But just pretty recently he's started growling at me and sometimes my partner (who visits pretty often) who he completely adores. It only happens if he's like lying down and you lean forward to give him like a kiss, and then he gets super worked up I've tried everything I can think of, ignoring, comforting, telling him of by keeping him at his back and waiting for him to calm down (this only makes it worse) and nothing works The weirdest part is that he seems so regretful of it, like right after you lean back he licks you in the face and walks after you to "apologize" Just today it got really bad and he went from growling to snarling and it even felt like he was gonna bite, something he has never done I've grown up with dogs, learnt a lot from my grandmother who's worked with dogs most her life, read tons of books and watches documentaries etc, and I have no idea what this behavior is I'm terrified that he might have a tumor or something I'll call the vet tomorrow and talk to them, but I just wanted to ask here to see if anyone knew what this might be Pic related, doggie on the right
