Are bones okay for dogs, /an/? I've tried searching and searching for a proper answer, but opinions seem split. I've heard "all bones are fine since splintering is rare", "never small bones but huge bones are safe", "only pork or beef bones and only raw", "never pork bones", and "never ever feed any bones whatsoever". It seems like raw bones might be a bit safer, since there's not much of a chance of splintering...? I got a natural pork femur bone specifically packaged as a dog chew, and gave it to this handsome guy, and he ADORED it but within 5 minutes he'd bitten off one of the chunky ends. I took it away from him since it was a little too small and I was worried he'd swallow and choke on it. The rest of the bone seems fine, still greasy and meaty and not splintered at all even where it broke off, but I'm worried about giving him the rest. Thoughts?

Hey guys, long story short I'm in my countries K9 unit as part of my national service obligations. After NS I'm gonna be returning to Australia for university and to settle down there. A couple months ago I was assigned a lab, Pearl that was narcotics trained but because she can't operate outside a comfort zone and is super timid she was taken off ops. So she's up for adoption, and part of my job entails helping make her more suitable as a pet. When I had her under me at first she wouldn't even eat while I was around, and she'd hide at the back of her kennel and look out occasionally, and she'd shy away when I tried to pet her. But after a while, from taking her out, socialising her with other dogs and people as well as walking her and taking her for runs she's a lot more friendly, she'll run up to the gate of her kennel when I walk up to it, she'll jump up on me and lick my face and of course, she lets me pet her. I took her out a couple days ago for a walk and one of my friends went to pet her and she hid behind me, and I realised that we do share a pretty special bond. And of course, it sunk in how much I'm gonna miss her when I go back. After looking into how much it'd cost, the airfare and vet stuff would cost me around $5.5k Australian, because of their customs laws, and unfortunately that's a lot of money. My question is that IF I were to start a crowd funding thing, like patreon or something how many of you would actually get on board with that kinda thing? I'm super biased towards that sort of thing and I'm really on the fence about it but it's seeming like my only option to take Pearl back with me so I'm just gauging a couple opinions. Pic related, it's her

so I'm gonna apply for a job at a pet center nearby it has qts and rescue kittens and dog school etc, as well as being just a general retail for pet merchandise and peripherals what are some interesting things about generic pets that can make me look smart, common misconceptions and whatnot i've owned cats and dogs and fish all my life but I feel I still need an edge on the competition, it's my destiny to work with these qts ok let's just make it a fun fact thread >FUN FACT if you can't easily feel your cat's ribs, or see its waist from above, it's a fat shit and it's your fault you fat shit

I want to get "redpilled" on the inner workings of nature. What to read? I liked "The Balance of Nature: Ecology's Enduring Myth". Stephen J. Gould redpilled me on the role of chance, though he went a bit too far. I've also read some books that take a contrarian stance towards the policy towards invasive species. These include "Where do camels belong?", "The New Wild" and "Rambunctious garden". I feel it is somewhat imbalanced but those books had interesting insights anyway. And I do read a lot of pro invasive species stuff (but less books, since a negative stance towards invasive species is the mainstream view within conservation). I am also looking for books that deal with how culture or ideology shapes the way we see nature. Ecocriticism seems exactly what I was looking for but it is very post-modern (=unreadable). I am now reading "Evolution's rainbow" it is a bit imbalanced and repetitive as I read another book by Joan Roughgarden, but it deals a bit with how ideology shapes how we see nature and I like how it shows that mating is more diverse as we think. I find it interesting that within the field of evolution you have a group of collectivists and individualists (notable Richard Dawkins with his selfish gene). It seems the individualists sort of won. Though many agree that both competition and cooperation play a role in nature.

I ran over a froggo in my driveway today. I watched him take his last froggy breath as blood bubbled out his eyes. Please help me cope with this guilt by posting cute amphibians.

This morning my dog was acting lethargic so I carried him to my car and drove to the vet. They said he had a heart tumor and was bleeding in the heart sac. His name was Oden and he was 9 years old. In the span of 2 hours it went from perfectly fine to putting him to sleep. Love your dog while you can.

Hey /an/ me and my friend were driving when we saw this little angle on the side of the road. She was calling for her mother so we stopped and went out to make sure she was okay. She wasn't running but didn't come either, i took her up to look at her and she was so skinny like she hasen't eaten in a long time so we decided to take her with us. (Live on the country so people doesn't really care much for cats, and they often get hit by cars or killed by the "reaper" machines and people leave them to die) i have now bought kitten food. Milk and have the intentions to nurse her back to health! She is very sweet and is starting to like me so she wants to be touched and cuddled by me now( almost) how old do you think she is? She doesn't really drink water, she can eat though but she is sooo small and skinny :( then she have ear mides and maybe something with her tummy, but i honestly don't know, i am not sure she can shit and pee by herself. At least she haven't done that so far
