hey guys, so i have a dachsund, hes about 16 years old and for the most part in pretty good shape. hes starting to walk a little funny on his back legs but from what i can tell hes not in any pain what so ever. the problem is that hes starting to lose control of his bowels. like he doesnt even know hes pooping when he walks. i have a nice pen for him and my other dachsund and hes starting to stink up my apartment. my fiance wants me to put him down. i dont even know what im asking here i just want others opinions. hes been my best friend since i was 8 and i know his times coming up here but i cant imagine bearing the pain of putting him down for no good reason.

(tl;dr: Are there any kind of black flies known to have a stringer and bite people?) Anyone have any kind of idea where this might have come from? I was bit by a very large black fly earlier in the day, then around 4 hours ;ater at a different location the same size kind of fly stung me in my upper arm (pic related) I am thinking that this may have come from some weird pheromone thing similar to wasps, as the second attack was completely random (the first, I swatted the fly and provoked it). I've never had inflammation of this kind before, and where the original fly bit me, on my finger, it has bloated up to the point that I can't even make a closed fist. The stinger of the second fly was stuck in me about 2cm (half an inch)

Bath Time!!!

So /an/ do you bathe your pet and if you do how often and with what? In my case I bathe my boa 2 to 3 days after it eats and after it takes a dump. I usually use whatever type of shampoo I'm currently using. So /an/ do you like your pets filthy or fresh?

Hey, an, I'm interested in getting a cat but I'd like to bottlefeed and raise it from a kit so it'll bond to me. The humane society is too strict about whom they allow to take on kittens (how am i gonna pay for kits if don't work? lol) so they're not an option. Basically my plan is to attract a pregnant or nursing queen and then foster it's kits until they're old enough to be adopted out and only keep the one that seems most bonded to me. How do I attract a pregnant or nursing queen to nest? Is there any way to attract one without attracting every cat in the immediate area? >inb4 thts dum op. Do this instead. toxoplasmosis. fiv. adopt. etc. They'll be properly taken care of.

Betta Fish

Just got my first ever fish, a betta fish and a 9L tank they recommended since they don't like open spaces. I have a thermometre set to 26C and a filter on the lowest stream setting. As long as I feed him twice a day and keep using the conditioner and bio starter to make the water better, he should be okay right? There's nothing else I need to do for him other than sing for him? Also name suggestions please.

>squirrels keep taking pieces of fried chicken from trash cans in the neighborhood >drop them from the tree in my yard >have to keep chasing my beagle around the yard and forcefully taking them from her mouth so I don't have to pay for a vet visit What the hell do I even do about this? They're not mine, I don't know whose trash they're coming from, and I can't do a sweep of my hard every time I let my dog out 10 times a day. Is there any sort of mesh/chicken wire I can put under the tree's branches that won't disrupt/endanger wildlife?

Cat keeps killing small chipmunks and mice. Should i just get used to it? She litterally walked into house at night time and placed it right infront of my feet. I get the feeling she is trying to tell me something. I wonder if it will cease once i get her fixed. Vet charging 400$ cuz they have a monoply in my town.

I'm thinking about adopting a kitten, but I currently live at home and my parents have a 7 year old cat and I've been thinking the kitten might get used to having a playmate and once I move out (within the next few months) it might cause him to feel lonely no longer having a friend. So should I adopt 2 kittens? I'm not sure how my roommates would feel about me having 2 cats but I don't want the kitty to feel lonely when I'm at work. Also, I don't have any preferred breed but aren't orange tabby cats the most social?

how do I know when my dog is dying /an/on?

3 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
I know this might sound like a dumb question how do you know when your dog is dying? I've only had one dog before this which was the family dog many years ago. She started suffering from kidney failure and in a lot of pain so we had her put to sleep. A few years later I adopted my current dog, he's 11 and a 1/2 right now. How do you know when your dog is dying, especially when its not clearly suffering from something like kidney failure? My dog last year had a major pituitary tumor removed and that brought me more time with him. But in the past few weeks his health seems to be going down. He can barely walk. I took him to the vet 2 weeks ago to address some issues and he's gotten worse. He's trembling a bit now and not just in his backlegs. What are your experiences with an old/dying dog? Especially if they died quietly of "natural causes" and not something obvious like kidney failure? He's on pain medication for the leg issues. I took him to the vet on Friday to do a test for hyperparathyroidism. I don't know. I think he might be near the end. I'd just like people's thoughts.
