any other "professional fosters" here? I've been doing it for a few years and love it. It's such a rewarding experience. Plus it's nice that the local humane society I foster for 100% pays for any supplies or vet care they need. I've been thinking that I don't even want to actually get a pet of my own and just keep going like this pic of my latest little foster boy

So my one of my hens best friend was killed by a raccoon about a week ago. Those things happen, but are their anythings I should look out for to keep the hen healthy while we are waiting to raise new hens? Pic related, her with her old best friend in the background.

My dog has a scabbed bump on her chest, though it wasn't scabbed before. The part of the bump under the skin is hard, and from what i can tell it causes pain, but only when pressure is applied. Im not sure why its scabbed over, as i, nor anyone in my household have attempted anything past light squeezing to narrow down and details possible. Im not sure if the size increased, but it may have. In short, its a bump comparable to the size of 3/4 of the end of my finger, not too big but still raises concern. With the details provided, could anyone help me identify whether or not the bump is a serious health concern? I can provide a picture of the bump if needed.

Hi guys, so I adopted a doggo and he basically is super scared, shy and traumatized. What can I do to help him gain some confidence? Or time will help him gain that? Thanks.

A local nursery has one, but it's very young. Basically looks like a piece of grass. Should I get it?

How many state birds have you seen? I've seen 11. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._state_birds There are a lot of duplicates though, and some states get two state birds. Seems like cheating.

How should I discipline my 6 month old puppy? Obviously I don't want to hit him or anything but this is my first dog ever and I'm not sure how to go about training him properly. I understand he's still a puppy but I know there's a way to teach him. Any advice would be appreciated Pic related

Barking Dogs

We're thinking of getting a pup next year (boxer) but the neighbours' dogs bark constantly/regularly. Any tips for making sure ours doesn't pick up the habit? Common sense tells me that leaving a dog alone for a whole day while you go to work, especially while young, is going to cause trouble (we're not in that situation, so that's good). And to leave the dog in incrementally longer durations so he always knows you're coming back? I grew up on a farm so we never had a problem with our dogs learning bad habits from the neighbours. Suburbia is new territory for me.

Let's get an old fashioned Rippan n' Tearan thread going. Post the brutality of nature. Remember the rules, keep it nature only. Animal abuse is still not allowed on /an/.

How bad of an idea is it to keep a LSG in an apartment in NYC? I'm close to the park if that means anything.
