Hey /an/. I need help from some bird lovers. I plan on getting 2 cockatiels from a breeder soon. I already have a 30Wx18Lx55H cage. I have a few questions. WATER FOUNTAIN I have a water fountain that I want in his cage. I'm concerned bout them pooping inside the water fountain. It's an electric pump so the water is always circulating. I thought it'd be pretty cool and soothing for the birds to hear the sound of running water. Is this a terrible idea? (don't worry, the cord for the fountain will be covered so the bird can't access it.) The fountain is pretty large, almost the full circumference of the cage's width. TOYS I really, really hate the idea of junking my large cage up with toys. It just feels cluttered and claustrophobic to me, or possibly restrictive to the birds flight. Should I cram his cage full of toys? BONDING TIME I work Thurs-Sun 8hour shifts. During this time my bird will be left alone. I fear he'll get lonely and start plucking feathers/depressed. How much time should I spend with him so he'll be find for atleast 8hours? When I get off work, I WILL interact with him or let him out his cage until I goto sleep, which should be around 4~6 hours. Is it enough? SLEEP When do cockatiels generally sleep, and how should I act when he is sleeping? I've seen some people cover their cage with a curtain and etc. Are they easily awakened by sound? OUTSIDE PLAY Is there anything i should consider before letting him roam free out the cage in my room? When we get bonded well enough, I want to take him outside the house sometimes for fresh air. I don't think he can fly away since I'll have him on a bird leash. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH7-LDi5bXw AFFECTION Do cockatiels like to cuddle? I know some species of bird dislike it. I love cuddling and want to make sure he does too. I think that's about all the questions I have at the moment.

/an/ I need help. I've had two parakeets for 2 years. Due to me not taking responsibility for them, they are not trained at all. They are basically just two beady eyes that we feed and give water to every day. Now I don't know what to do with them. I want to start training them and take responsibility. However, I don't know where to start. Especially after 2 years. But, then again I've thought about giving them to a bird rescue because I don't think I'm the best owner for them. The sad thing is that all my other pets I've trained and given attention to.

Hi /an/, I bought a coriander plantsince my girlfriend likes to use it for cooking and it's a bit expensive. The thing is I don't know how much light it needs, how often should I water it and so on. The thing is I must have done something wrong since the plant started dying very soon. Any ideas? Any cool webpage for learning which cares pot plants need? (the coriander in the pic is not mine)

Dear /an/, please be on the lookout for this whippet. I know posting this on here might not be the best move ever and quite the long shot, but we're ("we" is a large group of people trying every thing in our power to find this dog) starting to run out of options fast. The dog has been stolen from his owner's car at the Dutch lure-coursing championships on September 15th. His owners are sick with grief and very concerned about their beloved boy. If you know anything, please let us know. (Please excuse the poster's grammar, I didn't make it.)

TL;DR: Please help my friend's pug - Muppet! He has a rare disease (Hemivertebra) and requires insanely expensive neurosurgery. If you want to help please donate on paypal to nozzie33@gmail.com FULL POST: "Hi everyone I think by now everyone at the vet school knows who Muppet is but for those that don't, Muppet is the crazy and very cute Pug that was surrendered to the clinic almost 4 months ago. In his history, it says that he was surrendered for 'research purposes' to another clinic by the breeder (BOOOO!!!!) so he has not had the best start to life. He has a condition called hemivertebra, which is where one of the vertebra in his spine has not formed properly causing his back to arch and bend, and impinge on his spinal cord. This means that he can't use his back legs properly and he sort of crawls around on his hands and knees. His feet need daily bandaging to help prevent lacerations to his skin and we put boots on him when he is outside to help protect his feet a little more. When he is inside with us, he wears cotton socks so his little feet can breathe a little bit! He has a wheelchair that he is slowly getting accustomed to, and he loves going down to the slipping track in his chair with his big bro Russell the Greyhound and having a bit of a workout! So anyway, long story short, he needs surgery. Neurosurgery.... and yes, this is going to be as expensive as it sounds. Please help in any way you can, even if it's just passing this site along to others to get the word out. Donations can be made via PayPal to nozzie33@gmail.com"
