HELP! Feline Kidney Disease?

Hey /an/, I really need your help. I doubt any of you remember, but I posted here seeking advice about nine months ago after adopting my cat, Chubbi. When we got her, we were told she was 3 years old and in good health, aside from being a few pounds over weight. They recommended we get her down to 8 lbs, from 11 lbs.
Well, nine months later, she’s down to 8.5 lbs and much more energetic than she was back then (actually able to jump up on the bed, chase her feather in short bursts, etc.)! She seemed really healthy, but I wanted to get her into the vet for a check up, just to make sure everything was still alright after getting the weight off. However, the vet was concerned with the weight loss - he said it was a lot to lose in a short time span, and that her lack of appetite was worrisome. He suggested blood work, and I was like, “Yeah, no problem!”
The vet called this morning with the results: Kidney failure. What the fuck? I have absolutely no idea how to deal with this. The vet’s insisting I need the prescription diet they sell there, as well as sub-q fluids. I was hoping someone here might have experience with kidney disease, or have advice for me? I’m scared to death guys, and really sad for Chubbi. I’m so grateful for any and all help.

I've had her for about a month now and I am seriously stuck. My last cats name was Tiger and he was my baby for 13 years. It's so hard to move on, and I'm guessing that's why I'm having a hard time. Names I have considered are Sabrina, Miya, Cheese, Milly, Brandy, and Serina. What does 4chan think? I don't want anything too common, and cameos appreciated.

My cats both ate a mouse, but they only ate the head, and not the body. does that mean the mouse was infected with some parasite or disease?
what are the chances that my cats caught something from the mouse. toxaplasma, or something or the sort? I think the mouse bit one of them, and im sort of concerned about rabies.
call me paranoid, but ive got a mouse problem.
