I have a baseball cap that I need to dye, but I'm not sure of the best way to go about it.
The hat is 63% polyester, 34% cotton, 3% spandex. I think most of the polyester is from the stiffening layer at the front of the hat on the inside, as the outside of the hat itself seems mostly cotton, or at least very close to it.
I was figuring I could just use RIT dye, but I'm a little reluctant because the tag says only to wash cold, but it doesn't seem to say anything about putting it in a dryer... I don't know how the heated water will effect it during the dying. The hat is fitted, so if it shrank, I can't just adjust the strap on it.
I suppose another option would be "sharpie and alcohol," but last time I tested that on something, there was a lot of bleeding of different colors in the material.
What would be the best way to dye a hat like this?
