Hello /cgl/, I've lurked around sometimes, since I got interested in going to con's around 2011, and I generally love to see pretty girls in beautiful inctricate dresses and fluffy costumes.
Last weekend I, however, got a forcing need to want to get into shape and do a crossplay, possibly of Kaname Madoka or Akemi Homura, but here's the problem. I'm a 183cm/128Kg (6ft/282Ibs) mixture of a chubby tummy and muscles. I've always held a soft spot in my heart of womens clothes and I'd really love to perform a crossplay since a lot of other people even bigger than me do them, but I'd actually want to pull a good performance off. I just greatly dislike that I'm so tall and not too well fit. I just started running laps around two days ago to try and drop my tummy, and I'm keeping a watchful eye on my diet too. What I'd really like to ask in here though, is that is it even possible for me, as tall as I am, even if I do drop my belly and gain a more slim figure, make a good crossplay? And how do you even begin to make a costume? I was thinking of drawing some of the shapes of, say, Homuras blouse and trying to sew one for the fun of it, but is there a ready pattern people use or something?
>chubby muscles guy wants to became cute and cuddly, but doubts being able because he's so damn tall.

Alright, so I'm very new to cosplaying, as in I've never cosplayed in my life. I'd usually be procrastinating to start planning something like this, but I don't feel like getting shat on by the otaku community because of how bad the cosplays would turn out.
1) I don't have a lot of cash flow right now.
2) I'm willing to pick up a few skills to start making cosplays.
3) I have three or four months to start.
4) So far, the cosplays I've figured I want to do (rather, the friend I'm going with wants me to do) are Rido Kuran (Vampire Knight), Claude Faustus (Black Butler), and Kirito (SAO).
5) I've little time of day and weekends are probably going to be my time for planning.

I've only done cosplay once before. I did a maid cosplay at dragon-con 2012. (pictured)
I'm heading to AWA this year and plan to do the same sort of thing (I like the costumes and i want to be little girl and all that, but i dont have the body to pass as female, nor do i want to pass as female. Silly is good.)
This year I'm considering K-ON! cosplay, but not sure how far I should take it. I love the show, own and play a few guitars, but am a skinny white male with short hair.
Should I go for a wig?
If I go with Yui, do tights work with super-hairy legs?
And finally, props- my guitar is a '79 peavy t-60... very heavy. Do i want to carry it around all con? Ritsu I could just use drumsticks, and I have a microkorg if i wanted to do Mugi... How important are props to these characters?
Thanks for the help seagulls, you guys are always super helpful and nice.
