I'm new to Texas, I just need a opinion on the different types of conventions here. I currently live in Corpus Christi. I already to know to avoid all south Texas conventions below Alice.

A-Kon: Pretty decent sometimes.
Oni-con: Easy to walk around free the entire weekend, it's honestly not worth spending money on though.
Anime Matsuri: Overpriced, but they usually do get some of the best guests.
Afest: Probably my favorite, but I can get in for free so it's probably why.

Akon: the con content gets worse every year, but more people come, its tons of fun just to interact with strangers.
San Japan: The complete opposite

Welcome anon, I've been to pretty much every con in the state and most of the multiple times. Lets do a rundown

Ikkicon-Austin-usually end of the year
Pretty good size, 4-6k. Average programming, nothing special. Bad wrap for the cosplay contest, can be poor with communication

All-con-Dallas-March
literally what it says, a con for all fandoms. It's small, has limited anime programming but a really good nightlife if you know who to ask. Also older crowd.

Anime Matsuri-Houston-Easter Weekend
big, around 6-8k, a lot of specialized programming. Key points include japanese fashion (they have Baby & Alice as guests) culture guests from japan and a car show (no one really cares about the car show). It's more expensive than most cons, it has a lot of programming and the cosplay contest is run well. Also this year they have the WCS finals

A-kon-Dallas-June
Huge, the largest con in the state. Nothing special programming wise, especially from year to year. They have an issues never doing anything different. Used to get top tier japanese bands, don't think that happens anymore. Shit cosplay contest. Terrible staff, worst rep and never want to hear feedback

San Japan-San Antoino-July/August
over 9000 this last year. Great variety of programming, great cosplay contest, great vibe overall. This is my personally favorite.

Anime Fest-Dallas-Labor day weekend
4 day con, about 4-5k. Laid back and chill, good atmosphere. Standard programing. They tend to try to get actual industry guests from japan unlike most cons in the state. Cosplay contest is mediocre, but they split walk ons and skits into 2 separate days which is unique

Oni-con-Galveston-October
Shit tier, worst programming, worst cosplay contest, worst organization, worst with communication. Seriously, this con sucks. Usually around 3-4k. Very light programming for a con of it's size. The staff is unorganized as fuck.

I think I covered most of the big ones, feel free to ask questions
