What do you guys think of this dress?

I will start off by saying I'm a sweet lolita and the majority of my wardrobe is pink with the exception of some pastel colorways. However, I really like this dress. I don't know what I would wear with it though, but I feel like it'd be nice just as a "casual" dress. I love the bodice and I really don't feel like a blouse will make this dress look good. Is it alright to wear just as a JSK? And what kind of socks/stockings?

I placed an order for this but I'm very cautious with my money and am scared I am going to regret this purchase.

I don't think you'd regret it, it's a very cute dress. I I think just plain black knee highs would work with it. If not perhaps some black and white checkered socks yea?

It's a replica.

Issue: I'm quite tall, so my knees and a bit of thigh will show no matter what (I know they can custom make), so I usually stick with thigh highs or tights.

Really? What's it a replica of? I didn't know that sorry!

Ah that's even better actually, I'd go for thigh highs rather that custom making it it so it's a bit longer! Then again I have no idea exactly how much thigh usually shows, do you have any reference pictures of you?

There is a pink version if you're mosty sweet? That's what I have (pic related).

It's difficult to wear a proper blouse with that dress because of the neckline; I like to wear it with the lace top that I have.

It's not actually a replica as far as I know? I thought it was only the chandelier and merry go round ones which were direct replicas, Rose Melody is certainly very inspired by other brands but this one isn't a direct rip off of anything. If anyone can find the 'original' of this I'll be happy to be proved wrong.

Typically I wear thigh high stockings (I don't like the feeling of pants, tights, or anything that rides up my crotch other than underwear for whatever reason). I know the dress is set to 90cm, but I'm never sure where they are measuring for. For instance, DoL measures from the bodice (instead of measuring from the straps) to the bottom.

I have gotten quite thin since that photo, I don't take many photos of myself in lolita because I don't have much space in the apartment I live in, nor do I wear lolita out too much. The dress in the photo is 97cm, I am nearly 6 foot but not quite.

Really, what replica is it of?

>>6772971
I'm not really sure if I want to make a fully gothic coord though, and I really don't know what blouse would look nice with it. I like the way the dress is, surprisingly. I would just love it if it had little chiffon puff sleeves, and I asked if Rose Melody would do that (like what they did with their OP version)but they said they can't...

>>6772981
I hate the pink version because I can't stand metallics. It just bothers me! That's why I hate Infanta and the majority of Rose Melody and Surface Spell. I know, this black dress is an exception. That coord looks very nice!

Ah that's too bad, you should always take pictures of lolita, even if space is limited!

But hmm, those are still knee highs no?

Errr... Under my situation with where I live is kind of tough. My mother picked up hoarding when her husband (my father) died... And she just couldn't bring up to having an estate sale (to sell his items), and after she quit work and has been living off of her retirement, we ended up getting foreclosed from the house we lived in and shoved into a shitty small apartment... I can't leave my mother because she's my mother, and I would just feel so bad. All of the rooms in our apartment is just full of junk - garbage EVERYWHERE and there's no clear room of space.

Yup though were my first pairs of BtSSB socks. I NEVER wear knee highs anymore though. My legs are a lot thinner though, so those knee highs go a bit passed my knees now. They fall back down when I walk though. I still prefer thigh highs, but I have yet to get myself a black pair!

For my height, I normally have to have dresses be at least 100cm... It's Hell too, because petticoats never look "right" due to how much longer they have to be, and at that point, there's never enough poof as let's say a cute girl who stands at 5 foot 2.

>>6773002

That's unfortunate. :/. All this "garbage" is all your fathers items?

Haha, well at least you should take at lease one updated photo showcasing your thighighs and well, thighs. And that's true, you should always have a black pair.

I couldn't say either way, I've never seen tall girls in lolita fashion to be honest, so that would be a first.

Rose Melody measures that 90cm from strap-hem iirc which is like...knee length on me and I'm 5' 2". I think you'll need tights for this one. You should also really convince your Mum to sell some of his stuff, I understand sentimental but can't she just keep the things that were the most meaningful in their relationship and sell the rest?

Replica of the fabric, yes. Dress, no. They took the original print, removed SotS's logo and put their own in. Hilariously, I think SotS has since closed down.

By definition replicas of prints are considered replicas. They don't necessarily have to be directly fashioned with the same cut and style of the dress. In fact a replicated print is more a replica than a replicated plain dress.

Not a direct replica but a replica none the less.

That's called a replica. A lot of oo jia and DoL's replicas are not true to the design of the original items as well.

>Hilariously
Go die in a fire. How is it funny at all that they closed up while their designs are stolen and replicated?

Don't get your bloomers in a bunch and learn to read the rest of threads. Rose Melody isn't why they shut down. Their replica was released long after SotS had ceased selling the print.

And yes. Hilariously. Because that was fucking sarcasm. No one found out about them until after they had shut down, but now everyone wants their work. I find that sad and ironic.

Oh no, I wouldn't call my father's items garbage. Literal garbage is cluttered up with stuff. My mother just throws whatever onto the floor. I always clean up after her to ensure we don't have a bug infestation.

I don't feel comfortable being tall (I mean, I'm the height of a man so...) because I don't feel it's cute or pretty. Maybe it's good for "real" modeling but for lolita it just looks horrible.

>>6773116
Oh wow that is really short then, I'll have them make it a little longer. I've already tried to convince her too, she's just a blob who sits around crying everyday. I don't know what to do with her. I've even called a psychiatrist who was able to come to our house (that shit is nearly $500...) and talk to her, but my mother is very uncooperative and throws a fit if anyone mentions her husband...

>>6773118
That's good to know, thank you!

>>6773121
I also don't like that. I like it in the back, but not in the front. I feel like having thread in both front and back as ugly. It doesn't look like cheap satin though. Either way, I'd end up pulling the front thread out.

Well I'm not against replicas in any way, so I don't mind. I prefer Oo Jia over DoL anyways and never had a problem. I wouldn't dare ever wear Angelic Pretty. On me, I really do look like a woman wearing children clothing. AP's stuff is in the 80's cm length and I need at least 100cm... So it's a big difference that not even an underskirt could fix. Bodyline;s length is even worse haha.

>>6773407
See that is why I prefer OP's, because I can wear them without a blouse. I don't plan on wearing this with a blouse, but I ALWAYS cover up my legs. I wanted to add those little puff sleeves like they have in the OP version but Rose Melody said they can't do that.

>>6773449
Lol I won't be tagging it as any form of lolita, believe me, I hate seeing that shit too. I don't want to wear a blouse though. I don't plan on buying additional items as this would be my only black dress.

Rose Melody puts out pretty good quality. And if the original brand has closed down as it is anyway, I don't see the problem (though I don't care about replicas to begin with anyway), since you can't buy it from the originally seller at this time.

Uh that's like the same you could say with AP. AP doesn't restock most of their prints once they sold out, like I can't go to their site and buy Whimsical Vanilla Chan anymore.

I had this dress and loved it, and only got rid of it when it was too big. All I can complain about was that I got it custom fit and it was pretty short on me still. Also, the bodice construction was a little weird and if it weren't for the the corset lacing (which they gave shitty, shitty silver ribbon for) it would have *really* boxed me out.

But with as much as I complain, I'd like to own it again, if I can get it remade with more accurate measurements (I was a beginner when I first got it and don't think I specified them quite properly.) It's gorgeous in person and the screenprint quality is fantastic.

As for wearing blouses with it, I wore it with both long and short sleeved blouses and it always looked nice.
