Hi /ck/, is it normal for chicken thighs to smell a bit? I can't describe the odour other than 'meaty'. I've never noticed any strong smell handling breast but I figure the higher fat content could make it smell a bit? I can't see a reason there should be something wrong - it was bought two days ago, still good for at least three days and I stored it in the fridge in a recloseable bag.

Is it possible to mix Disaronno and Baileys without the Baileys congealing? if so how? tried mixing it with whiskey before and after 10 mins it just coagulates and floats to the top, not very appealing

I am hosting an important dinner party my boss is coming to. He is from Sardinia and I think I will impress him and all my guests with a delicious Casu Marzu starter dish, but I can't find it in the shops anywhere. Nobody even seems to know what it is.

And I was wondering about some good places to eat. I figured I'd hit The Varsity since it's cheap, and close the convention center I'm going to be at. I'm looking to stay under $15 and my hotel is actually in Norcross if that matters any. One of my few /ck/ related images that isn't a story of some kind.

morning /ck/! I'm on call this week so naturally I'm having some cheap red wine and leftover chinese for breakfast. Just got paged, in fact, because EKG data wasn't making it to the Pyramis server. Rebooted the server, if it's still broken after that then it's the clinical ancillary on-call's problem not mine. Wheee-ooo I'm half-drunk already.

'pizza'

Hey! I want to try throwing together little 'personal' sized thin-crust pizzas as a quick meal from time to time. But I'm wondering if I can do this with tortillas as my 'dough', especially since I can get them for like 90 cents for 8 from the local Mexican grocery store. Here's what I'm thinking: - tortilla as the base, covered with a thin layer of vegetable oil - a thin layer of spaghetti sauce or pesto (or could I even use something like bruschetta - some crumbled or freshly grated white cheese - some thinly sliced smoked/polish/andouille sausage - misc diced veggies (onion/peppers/spinach/mushrooms/whatever I need to use up) I know that tortillas are not pizza crusts, but the price is right and I want to try to make this work. Does anyone have any suggestions for cooking times/temperatures, alternative toppings or just making pizzas at home in general?

Jello 'Deviled' Easter Eggs with Vanilla Filling Jello Eggs (makes 3 whole jello eggs, or 6 halves) 3 ounce package of jello, any flavor 1 1/4 cups boiling water Lightly spray egg mold with non-stick cooking spray. Snap mold together and set it on a small tray to catch any spills. Combine jello and boiling water together; stir for 3 minutes until the jello is completely dissolved. Slowly pour mixture into 3 whole eggs (or 6 halves). Repeat as many times as you like, with as many jello flavors you like, until all your eggs are filled. Chill for at least 4 hours. When you're ready to unmold the eggs, slowly pry the mold halves apart (I use a butter knife to gently coax the halves apart). Using a sharp chef's knife, cut the eggs in half lengthwise using one continuous motion. Next use a melon ball tool to make a well in the large end of each egg half. Vanilla Filling (makes enough to fill about 24 egg halves) 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature 1/2 cup sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/8 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup heavy cream Cream together the cream cheese, sugar, vanilla, and salt until smooth. Add the heavy cream and whip until stiff peaks form. Put the cream cheese filling into a pastry bag that has been fitted with a star tip and pipe the filling into the egg halves. Chill until service. Note: To fill the jello eggs with cream cheese filling more than 6 hours ahead of time, add a packet of Whip It to the cream cheese filling mixture when you add the heavy cream.

What do you think is the bare minimum anyone need to know about cooking to not be considered a tasteless barbarian? How to make a great omelet, how to cook a perfect medium rare steak, how to properly cook pasta, or maybe know how to bake a good loaf of bread, and so on?
