Sorry for the crappy camera, but do you see those small holes? I thawed this frozen chicken breast and I was wondering if this was a normal thing. They don't go too deep at all. I assume it may be because the liquid inside expanded to create those holes while it was frozen.

/ck/ I come to you for answers. Should I get a blender? Do you have a blender? How much do you use it? How much better than my hand blender will it be? I make alot of soups, blend them in the pot. Like to make asian food aswell, different sauces, how much better will that be? Pic related, what I'm looking at. Don't know the brand but it fits my wallet.

Hello /ck/! Any of you guys catch/kill/harvest anything funny lately? I have a few crab pots set out, and I caught this little bugger, the first of the year, in one of them. The astute observer might notice that he has some shortened legs - That's because he roomed with a tiny wolffish and four big crabs who didn't get along too well with him.

I'm planning on having a party for a friend. Its probably just going to be an informal house party but I'm having a hard time deciding what food to prepare. Right now I'm thinking just snacks like Tortilla Chips/Guacamole, but I'd also like to be able to make some or all of the components of these dishes by hand. Does anyone have any ideas for other things I could serve?

I'm working on a story where, for one reason or another, the entire culture doesn't use fire. They still have access to metal tools, medieval level technologies, and there's a variety of non-fire type magic stuff, but no fire. One thing I've been wondering about is what sort of food they would eat. Raw fruit is obvious, but I'm wondering about how viable various raw meats are as well. And, what brings me here, I'm wondering if there are any interesting no-heat cooking techniques like kiviak that you guys might be familiar with? So, basically asking for various foods you can "cook" without using heat. Bonus points if they store well, for things like a trip or harsh winter.

How do I cook Steak?

So I got this pound of rib-eye and I want to cook it to a nice medium-rare. I know the perfect would be to sear on very high heat and finish in the oven, but last time I left it in the oven for 2 minutes per said it got all the way to medium-well and I don't want to repeat that mistake. Anyone have any tips or knows the right amount of time and heat?

I have a lodge cast iron skillet that wasn't properly seasoned before its first use, and now it has crap caked all over it (used for steak at high heat). How do I properly clean it so I can properly season it with flaxseed oil?

Microwave chocolate chip cookie, /ck/. Could it work? 1. Place the butter and sugars in a 2-cup bowl or ramekin. Use a fork to combine all these ingredients. 2. Beat an egg and add two tablespoons of the egg mixture into the bowl. Add the vanilla too. Stir to combine. 3. Add the flour, baking soda and salt. Give it another good stir. 4. Finally, stir in the yummy chocolate chips. 5. For the magic to happen, pop the mixture in your microwave oven and let it bake for about 2 minutes. 6. Top with a lovely scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzle with some melted chocolate. Taken from: >http://zoomyummy.com/2012/08/04/2-minute-chocolate-chip-cookie-for-one/ I will probably omit the ice cream and chocolate drizzle. Is this recipe worth trying? I only have one egg left. The ingredient amount is listed on the webpage. I will post that after this one.
