Sorry for the crappy camera, but do you see those small holes? I thawed this frozen chicken breast and I was wondering if this was a normal thing. They don't go too deep at all. I assume it may be because the liquid inside expanded to create those holes while it was frozen.

When it comes to chicken fast food, what do you prefer? Chicken buckets.... i.e. KFC and Poepyes allowed. inb4 mentions of that useless boycott for the 40th time, I just want to talk about food

So I moved into a new apartment and the heating elements on my stove top or more or less broken, /ck/. I guess previous tenants have been lazy fucks and haven't bothered to use them anyway. So, I bought a nice quality electric skillet and I'm just now realizing how fucking useful this thing is. So /ck/, I ask of you--what do you make specifically in YOUR electric skillet? I've made pancakes and mini meatloafs in it so far and they both turned out great.

Do you ever "cross-pollinate" your foods? I mean like mix one ethnic ingredient into a different ethnic dish? I stirred up some refried beans, salsa, peppers, etc. for burritos and I'm wondering if adding some soy sauce to it would help matters. I'd try it but I'm afraid of ruining the whole batch. What are some other ways to mix different regional foods in successful and unconventional ways?

Recipe sharing? This is my /ck/ stroganoff. Ingredients 2 pounds filet mignon, cubed (it is important to use filet) 3 tablespoons unsalted butter 3/4 cup diced onion 1 pound white button mushrooms 2 1/4 teaspoons all purpose flour 2/3 cup beef broth 2/3 cup heavy cream 1 cup sour cream 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh dill 1 1/2 teaspoons fresh parsley 1 1/2 teaspoons of smegma salt and pepper, to taste How to make it Heat cast iron Dutch oven (dry, no oil). Brown beef cubes in batches. Remove from pot and set aside. Melt butter and saute onion until soft. Add mushrooms and saute 20 minutes, stirring often, to caramelize. Sprinkle in the flour. Stir for 1 minute. Stir in beef broth, smegma, cream, sour cream and mustard. Simmer on low to thicken, about five (5) minutes. Return beef to pot and stir to coat with sauce and heat through. Stir in dill, parsley, salt and pepper. Serve over noodles (or rice).

American Cooking Shows general

fresh from the other boards' disdain I think it's time to establish a general thread about American food shows. We all know the Kitchen Nightmares Amy's Kitchen thing, but what about all of the other horrific or triumphant events on TV? Discuss Rob Irvine vs. Gordon Ramsay Discuss Bar Rescue naming every bar something gay Discuss Mystery Diners being obviously entirely staged but besides the reality shows there are also quasi-reality shows, Iron Chef Top Chef >has started to pit great chefs against each other instead of some vegan home cook vs. some guy that sous vides everything. >Now it's a show that features someone who expertly makes comfort food vs. someone who sous vides ice cream and it sounds delicious. This is a weekly tournament styled thing that lasts like 15 episodes and people who have the worst food get kicked off while the person with the best food wins something. I'm a huge fan of Top Chef, they have too much product placement but the scope of the show is a lot more involving and complicated and significant than every other challenge based show It's a weekly thing so sometimes early frontrunners get eliminated and everyone on twitter throws a bitch fit even though they never tasted any of it. The whole game of it is interesting, but the focus is usually the food... and some sponsorships by Toyota or whatever. Chopped >3(?) ingredients, 3 rounds, 4 people. each round someone gets kicked off for having the worst dish, this all happens in the course of a single show Masterchef >people getting condescending looks from one of gordon ramsey's friends Hell's Kitchen >also a once a week elimination style show but with Ramsay yelling at everyone even if they're doing well for dramatic effect.

I can't stand mustard. Seems to just overpower everything with that horrible pungent heat. I can just about tolerate that bland plastic mustard you see on american hotdogs, but I certainly don't see it as an improvement. I keep trying different mustards in different sandwiches or on different meats, and it's not working. Shit's all nasty. Anyone else?
