So recently my microwave broke, which wasn't really a big deal because I rarely use it. Anyway today I decided to make a grilled cheese and obviously couldn't because I have no microwave for the time being. Is there any alternative methods of preparation?

My friend gave me one of these last night and I'm surprised to say its actually a damn tasty beer. Does Sam Adams make good beer, or is this one just particularly decent? I never buy them because to me they seem slightly above pleb-tier.......I haven't been missing out, have I? The only other one I've had is the Boston Lager, which is much much better than Bud or Coors, but not good enough that I buy six packs of it for home consumption. Tell me /ck/, how are the other beers? Considering going out to get the fall sampler box thing.

/ck/, I'm looking to make some spaetzle. I saw on Iron Chef that they made it with pretzels as a partial flour replacement, and I've been making it the past few days at work with spinach. What's something else I could try to make it with? It will be going with veal shoulder, sausage gravy, and most likely some parsnips.

sup /ck/ I found on manager's special today some salmon in cedar wrap. Problem is that I got it home and it stank. Not horrible, but not good. It's in the oven now anyway. Directions said 375 degrees for 25 minutes. Should that be good, should I keep it in longer, or will it be gross either way. >inb4 food poisoning Like I give a fuck

How long can I expect 80 proof liquor to "keep" in a closed steel flask? Is there anything that can grow in that, or otherwise spoil it?

Candymaking: Fucking Crystallization Edition

15 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: Caramels-gold-bar-caramels-sm-final.jpg]
I just attempted to make my first ever batch of homemade caramels- I really want to be able to make some for the holidays, to bring to parties and give as gifts and what have you. I used this recipe ----> thekitchn . com / how-to-make-soft-chewy-caramel-candies-cooking-lessons-from-the-kitchn-180832 and, miraculously, managed to keep anything from burning to the bottom of the pan. I added the cream and butter too early, I think- after the sugar mixture had turned completely transparent, but before it had begun to caramelize. I also think I may have heated it too quickly, rapid bubbles began forming in the middle of the pan not long after I began heating the sugar. In the end, the caramel was a grainy, too-hard mess, like a cheap praline- and completely fucking inedible. Any tips for successful caramel-making? Or candy-making in general? I'd appreciate a better caramel candy recipe, if anyone happens to have one on hand.

Can you cook a steak entirely in the oven without using a grill or stove top? Its too cold for grilling and the stove top is broken. (if worse comes to worse I'm thinking of cooking it on a foreman grill then popping it in the oven if it is necessary I sear it beforehand.)

Working on upping my game, so I'd like to know which situations one would use a nonstick or similar frypan vs a stainless steel. I understand the general concept of heat/durability and I've had good results searing/browning with my nonstick, but I'm assuming I'm missing out on better utilizing my stainless steels. What sort of specific foods/dishes would be better cooked on a stainless steel frypan or a nonstick frypan? >Dontcareaboutnonstickcancer

Hey, /ck/. I'm in college and my schedule is awful, so I don't get much time to cook dinner, so I thought about investing in a crock pot for myself. Any suggestions regarding the type I should get? What do you like to make in your crock pot?

Is it safe to cook something in the microwave that has directions saying only use the oven? I have some frozen pizza things, and my oven recently stopped working. Can I use the microwave and/or stovetop to cook this? Directions: Preheat oven, thaw pizza in microwave for 2 minutes, place in oven for 7 minutes, done.

Poor slob here. I have an emergency and need advice -- My microwave just went on the fritz and I have no oven or toaster oven, only a rangetop and a nonstick pan. For dinner I have a cold burrito and a pair of hot pockets. Using the pan, how would I cook the burrito? The hot pockets? I have canola and olive oil, but not enough for deep-frying. Many thanks for advice.

Home made iced green tea

Do you have any tips how to make a good iced green tea? I drink tea a lot, but preparing several cups every day is a pain... and I can't just make more and leave it around, since drinking lukewarm tea is meh and it gets more bitter. So, do you have tips how to make iced one? Is it worth it to use higher quality, or any tea bags will be just as good? No premade iced tea I ever had (Lipton, anyone?) tasted like green tea. Is it even a green tea?
