I had a big argument with a friend today over fight scenes in comics/manga.
He argues that with the way movement and impact is usually depicted in manga, fight scenes feel much more fluid and dynamic, that artists try to depict moving action as best as possible in static images. In other words, speedlines. Compared to the way comics depict them, which follow a more classical panel by panel style and fight scenes look more like snapshots of a fight. The "one punch" argument. He also says that many manga make use of varying and unusual bodytypes and usually depict things like sword fights and canon/laser fire better. I pointed out things like Plastic man but I couldn't think of any great sword fights in comics off the top of my head.
The point is, I can't recall that many memorable fight scenes in comics. Yes, most battles are entertaining enough to hold my attention, but that's often because I'm invested in seeing what happens next with the plot. I'm talking about when it comes down to the two guys (or girls or whatever) to actually throw down, I haven't found many moments that get me that... that Hyped.
So what are /co/'s favorite or most memorable fight scenes in comics?
