Anyone else think this would make a fun scenario? I mean, it might warp the core message of the original, but it could still be fun.

SO BE IT

That said, does Zootpia seem... A little more advanced compared to our own society?

I mean to keep maintain microclimates like the kind in Tundratown and the Rain Forest place would require a ridiculous amount of power, a level of power I'm not sure is possible to maintain even if the entire setting's petrol and nuclear fuel reserves were dedicated just to maintaining the microclimates.

Nevermind the environmental systems required for them.

So, yeah, is Zootopia supposed to be "ahead" of us in at least some technological and scientific fields?

I admit, I haven't seen the movie yet because Amerilard.

Collectively, animals outnumber humans, so with all of them (relatively) working together, I'd guess they'd get things done faster.

Astronauts are apparently a thing in their universe as well.

>Why do the bunnies still fuck like bunnies
Selective biological accuracy. It's funny that Judy has lots of siblings, it's useful that she can jump high and hear well, but having bunnies living up to five years would hurt the story.
>Where are all the animals that were hunted to extinction by humans
Hunted to extinction by the mammoth. God hated them anyway.

I think the reversal scenario would work a little better as follows:
>things go differently for both Nick and Judy as kids
>Nick's takes his "never let them see that they get to you" philosophy in a different direction and joins the scouts anyway, working twice as hard as anyone to be the better scout
>Judy doesn't get the support she needs from her friends and siblings and eventually gives up on her cop dream
>the two kids meet when Nick's troupe heads out into the countryside for a camping trip
>both form an odd kinship and stay in touch
>they make a point to meet every time Nick's troupe makes a trip
>Nick ends up being Judy's lone source of encouragement
>years later, Nicholas Wilde has joined a respectable law firm as its newest associate
>still has that work-twice-as-hard mentality
>is "clever as a fox" but not wholly trusted due to species stigma
>some are afraid he'll spoil their the firm's image as a benevolent taker of "righteous cases"
>finds out the firm is considering not taking the case for some podunk rabbit farmer who is seriously in over his head and will probably lose his lands soon
>it's the motherfucking Hopps farm
>Nick takes the case despite his superiors' objections and heads out to the countryside for the first time in years
>meets Judy again
>she's working as a security guard for the time being and training hard for a stint in the police academy
>they work together to uncover the shady legal shenanigans that threaten her family's home

I was curious about this one myself.

I wouldn't be surprised if the California Grizzlies didn't decide to break off and form their own New California Republic.

The dogs thing, proibably because dogs exist due to human domestication of wolves.

Cats though are a bit of a mystery since, when you look at things, we never really domesticated cats. I suppose the "domesticated" cat without years of selective breeding on aesthetics grounds end up staying as wild small cats like bobcats and ocelots.

I heard a rumor about certain (smaller no doubt) subspecies of Moa surviving until 18th century. Or perhaps earlier but still pretty fucking late. If it's true (meaning if they discovered remains that could be dated to that period) then it's truly mind-blowing. Like this painting. Dodo's on the right. They still existed when it was made. It's so weird to me. Like they were really there and not long ago. There was a time when it was a normal thing that they existed.

No pangolins in Zootopia. Saw some armadillo though. Maybe in the sequel.

Realistically speaking, how do you guys think people would react to Nick and Judi officially dating/getting married in Zootopia 2?
How would people react to an on-screen interspecies kiss in the context of their world where it's not the norm and maybe even a taboo?
And by "people" I mean general audiences.
In fact I think this question should differentiate people: how do you think regular people would react, how do you think kids would react, how do you think whatever the fandom is called would react.
You think something like that could fraction the fandom?

There would be more fanart and that's it. Romance is of course nothing new in Disney or cartoons in general so it's not a big thing. I don't if the predator/prey relationship has ever been done except maybe Shrek but there were some interspecies relations.

Theres a very recent interview with Byron and Rich floating around stating that interspecies is OK in zootopia.too even though its not shown in the movie itself

The predominant theories state that we began to work with them to distract and bring down large prey items that neither species could kill on their own, or that a sub-breed of wolf developed over time called "the camp wolf" that would follow human tribes around and feed off of the leftovers from their kills. It's also thought that some of these camp wolf motherswould have died or abandoned their cubs, so humans adopted raised them and selectively bred the less agressive ones. Silver foxes were psychologically and physically domesticated in this way over a period of 50 years in an experiment done by the Soviet Union in Siberia.

http://pro.boxoffice.com/featured_stories/2016-03-weekend-forecast-zootopia-london-has-fallen-deadpool-whiskey-tango-foxtrot

It taking first place is pretty assured. Movies typically lose half their weekend box office a week later, and Deadpool was only $31.5M last weekend. They were predicting Zootopia to open at roughly $50M in the long-range forecast at the start of the year, but with a clearer picture of what's going on, they're expecting it to be in the $70M range instead.

The question isn't whether or not Zootopia is 1st place this weekend, it's by how much.

Given how risk-averse movie studios are there is no way anyone in charge actually thought that pandering to a fetish subculture would impact sales, especially given that this movie is clearly aimed at ALL of the children and their parents.

Real world demographics apply here, not the handful of freaks that visit /co/

One thing to watch tonight are the IMAX projectors. They tend to play the same thing all day all week, and they're not necessarily hooked up to a scheduling computer, meaning people need to manually eject a playlist to load a different one.

If someone's not paying attention, the time for the first 7:00 PM IMAX Zootopia could start and it'll start playing IMAX Deadpool instead. This probably won't happen, but if it does somewhere, it'll make the news.

the official reason is because "we wanted them to have their own name for the movie that works for them"
in reality it's actually a much better, more specific name, since the words Zoo (animal) and polis (city) completely describe the setting, over zoo and topia (place) being less specific.

It's a plot that worked though.

Everyone there was freely and casually racist/speciest to one another.

God forbid a movie support tolerance and acceptance. Honestly, I'm surprised you had time to go see it when there was a Trump Rally going on that very day.

Yeah that's totally what I said cuck. Literally just said I liked the message of tolerance but didn't like that they ham fisted it towards the end by turning predators into just black people.

First Beasts of No Nation, than Zootopia, and next The Jungle Book and this summer Star Trek.
Idris is really on a villain kick right now..

This speaks of a problem of Hollywood more than anything. There are very few black actors in Hollywood. Idris Elba is seen as a black man who's safe, presentable, and authoritative yet he doesn't have the high demands of a more seasoned actor like Denzel. The role of a police chief suits him and his name is a draw for some people.

And he's fully helpful and supportive as soon as Judy solves the initial mystery.

Things are hard all around for non-white actors. For example, when was the last time you saw a big movie where an asian man was a main character and din;t know martial arts? And don't give me Godzilla because Ken was a side character at best.
