So /diy/ I have a nasty issue with my house. When the house was bought the previous owner had an extension built onto the back, providing extra bathroom space and a sun room. However the metal roof has been a source of constant leaks on and off over the past few months. The assumed source is a series of vents where the metal roof met the original shingled roof. After tearing down a few shitty roofing tiles in the sun room, I found a gap between the metal roof and the rest of the house. There was some foam in the holes but they're dry-rotted and useless. As a result, I figured water was seeping in when rainfall came particularly hard. Now after a few failed attempts, I'm going to get some roofing caulk, rip out the old foam, and seal the roof as far back as I can get. Will this work, or will I have another failed repair on my hands? Once the rain stops I might try to get a photo of the roof itself.

Quick question. Is acrylic painting ok to paint my computer case? What if I fail? Will it be safe to use thinner?

High Temp Leds

Does anyone know where to find some High temperature LED's? I want to build a smoker and have the inside light up when you open the door. I am looking for small bulbs, like pic related. I want to be able to drill a hole and have just the bulb part sticking out, with the base behind the metal. The only info I can find is ceramic base LEDs are good, but I cant find any small enough!

DIY Bike Fenders

I've been ridding mountain bikes for a little while now and I was wanting to get some fenders for my bike. I thought it would probably be most cost efficient to make a set of fenders rather than buying some. So I was wondering if /diy/ had any ideas on how to make some fenders for my bike. I was looking to make something like pic related I have a Felt 9 Eighty series mountain bike with 73.66cm (29in) wheels. Anyone got any ideas?

sup guys I've been charged by my father to tidy up the small yard next to our house and I have a few question because I've never done something like this before. I hope you guys can help me. here's the situation: >2x3m tiles similar to pic related including tons of moss and weeds coming out of the cracks >2x3m grass (actually more like moss and weeds) here's the plan: >kill off the weeds and moss between the tiles >kill off the 2x3m grass/moss/weeds and replace with more tiles my neighbor recommended I install a drainage channel/gutter between the new and the old tiles for the water and put a layer of fine gravel under the new tiles. sounds reasonable to me. here are my questions: >what's the best way to kill off the weeds/moss between the tiles and how do I remove the grass? >how do I prepare the gravel so that when I put the tiles on top of it, the water flows to the gutter? my neighbor said the tiles should slope at an angle of 2% at least any answers, tips or help of any kind is greatly appreciated.

Hi /diy/, is there a way to use a cellphone li-ion battery to power a camera that uses 2xAA batterie. I have spare nokia batteries (BL 5CB 3.7 V) and the camera uses 2 AA batteries. I can figure out the mounting on the camera. How do i get 2.4 - 3 Volts from a 3.7 Li Ion battery? Here in my country is cheaper to buy this cellphone batteries than nimh and i have a lot working from old cellphones anyway Pic related, one of the cameras

I've got this monitor with a blackish purple line running straight across it. It appeared while watching youtube and I've ruled out it being a software issue. GPU drivers have been updated, different inputs have been tried, and the line even appears on the ASUS splash screen when powered on with no inputs connected. It's a hardware problem through and through. I asked for help on /g/ earlier, they weren't terribly helpful. Aside from telling me to come here they said to try applying pressure on the bezel where the line is, sometimes there is a bad connection or something. I did and nothing changed. I even went so far as to debezel the monitor and apply direct pressure on the monitor case. No change, the line didn't so much as flicker. I don't know what else to do. I tried to RMA it to ASUS, they guy I called said they'd send me an email with RMA instructions within 24 hours of calling. It's been over a week and I've heard nothing. I'm very frustrated and don't know what else to do. Google is useless. Monitor is ASUS VS229H-P, I have two additional ones that are working fine. An odd note is the line changes color to green on the blue "no HDMI" screen. It's probably an irrelevant detail but I figured I'd include it, shows a whole row of pixels didn't just go dead.

Sup /diy/, i'm after a AC voltage and current logger, everything i can find seem to be aimed at professional use and come with a $400+ price tag, because you know, you have to make sure your 250VAC rated device will handle a indefinite 150kV surge. So all i need is something that can a) provide a rs232 interface that i can use a PC to log with b) log internally or to an SD card for a reasonable length of time. It doesn't need to be fancy at all, i just need basic voltage and current over time and most of all it needs to be cheap.

Is it illegal for me to build or own gallows? I'm keen on building it just for fun, but I have a feeling I'd be exiled by my neighbours.. Do you think I would be able to sell it afterwards? It would seem a waste of wood and resources to build it and just leave it there. I don't feel I need to use it just yet anyway.

Leatherworking - Pyrography

2 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hey Folks, i made myself a bracer for archery out of leather and now I want to improve it by adding celtic ornaments. I wanted to use what I think is called Pyrography. It's basically writing through heat. I only got a normal soldering iron for electrics to use, will that do? Also my leather seems to be processed already, it takes no moisture. I would be grateful for any hints or tips. Thank you

Hello /diy/namos I am making a little outdoor hydrorig for lettuce or tomatoes. Does any more experience see flaws in this detailed schematic pic related. MC will be an arduino and I have a cheap ebay "water sensor". Will pump when water goes below some level. I have a small 3-5v pump and tested it with AA batteries for 20mL/s, which I believe to be sufficient. That's just a belief though cause I have never done any of this. Please drop some knowledge on me. Will it work simply hosing together multiple net buckets to one master net bucket and reservoir for adding fertilizer.

I'm thinking about making an audio amplifier for my record player. nothing too precise, I'm not an audiophile, I just want something to amplify two channels reasonably. what amp IC's should I use? some rando in the other thread hated 741 and lm386. I should "stage" it and have 2-3 amps in series to not introduce distortion, correct? pic related.

home chemical storage faq

6 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
what common household chemicals should you store as far apart as possible? I was storing acetone next to PVC priming fluid. turns out that explodes violently. a reason plumbers shouldnt work anywhere near painters at a construction site too. another one comes to mind. lime sulphur is used in the garden to prevent fusarium wilt on stone fruit. if mixed with ammonia, it makes poison gas. I was keeping them together because they both stink so badly in the bathroom cleaning cupboard where sulphurish smells arn't out of place.
