PC Build Thread

Hey /diy/ can you rate my PC build? I've never built a PC before and this is my first go at picking out the parts. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/hDJM6h The video card is an AMD HD79703GB Radeon HD 7970 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16. For some reason it didn't show up on partpicker, which makes me think I fucked up the build.

Hello, /diy/ studentfag reproting in The winter is here and my room is starting to get colder. I had to remove curtains and carpet due to dust, so I guess some heat loss due to that. I need help with keeping my room warmer, but with some cheap methods, anybody got advice? (Pic related, my room)

3d Printer Enclosure Window

So I bought this box at a thrift store. Its roughly 2 feet or so, 3/4 particleboard with laminate on it. Its a big and heavy box. I put my 3d printer in it to exhaust the fumes. I want to add a cheap plexiglass window to either the left side of the box, or on one (or both) of the doors so I can pay attention to the print. What do you think the best way to install the window would be? I have a router and a jigsaw.

DIY project- rebuild DC motor

I just completed a DIY that actually went better than I thought it might. The heater blower fan in my vehicle was not working and I didn't want to spend the $120 for a replacement fan. I had done my best last winter with it and replaced the brushes when it failed. With winter upon us it failed again as you can see why >pic related I found an instructables that showed how to rebuild the commutator and I went from there,

I can't afford to buy weights because they cost very much here (even used ones) so I was thinking about making some from concrete, similar to pic. related. My question is: how do I reinforce the cement such that it won't break? I want to make 5KG plates. Finally, do you think this is a good idea if one doesn't have money for proper weights?

Precision Aluminum Cutting

5 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hey /diy/ I was issued a macbook for work. I am not an apple fanboy and I don't like the fucking glowing apple on the lid. So I wanted to make a stencil of something else to cover it. I decided that the first design I would try was the Triforce from the Zelda series. First I tried to use aluminum foil. I printed my design on paper, and pasted it to the foil. When I tried to cut the foil with an exacto knife, it kept tearing and it was difficult to make it precise. Then I cut the top and bottom off an aluminum can, and used the center part. It was still hard to get a precise cut.... So, how would /diy/ go about making a precise stencil cutout in aluminum (or other completely opaque and thin material)?

Thoughts on using an ac drill like pic related to make a diy vertical mill/drill press? It doesn't need to do anything fancy or super precise, just go up and down and withstand lateral loads. I figure it would be better than spending $500 on a mill or blowing out harbor freight drill press bearings once a month. Would be cheaper and easier to replace of I break it too. Alternatively, how cheap and easy would it be to replace a drill presses bearings with ones that can take horizontal pressure?

Hey guys, I'm a 26 y/o engineer that has been unemployed for about a year and am looking for a change of pace. I currently live in a top 30 metro area by population but am planning on buying a cheap van and outfitting it with lot's of car batteries, a mattress and LED light/Wifi system. I will be parking it on riverside drive in manhattan. I will mainly be sleeping in the van and spending my day in starbucks free places around the city. I will have access to a 24 hour gym to shower, shave, exercise. I will have a large bucket lined with a trash bag for in-van shitting and pissing. If police become suspicious I will use the defense that I am meditating in the van and not sleeping as I heard that is an iron-clad defense for van living. I have external small propane heaters to make rice and chicken. Any potential problems with this or general advice? pic related
