Hey /diy/ I was wanting to create some form of blimp. I'm not sure on all the technically like if i'll have power fan and such but I'm pretty electrical and can do that all on my own it's mainly the physics of it and how to control the weight for it (internal control), I'm think so it can fit about 1 or two people maybe a basket or something similar style seating, also some material listing would be good.

/diy/ers i'm looking for some sort of project I can make in my dorm room. I've been learning to program but i'm seriously tired of just typing and need to do something hands on. Tools I have are just basic tools and a drill but i'm sure I could get my hands on other things. A bonus would be if I could start selling these things. I've already considered making alcohol or i've always had an interest in gardening so maybe some hydroponics. I am going home for Thanksgiving next week and can pick up a couple more tools as long as they can be taken on airplane pic semi related tl;dr looking for a project to do in my dorm room.

/DIY I am wanting to make a fiberglass airbox for my car. I already made the mold, I have the coarse (chopped or whatever) fiberglass and then the tightly weaved dense fiberglass that I will layer. I don't want to buy fiberlass releasing wax, but I have access to automotive grease, vasoline, oil, saran wrap, scotch tape. I've heard saran wrap/scotch tape/painters tape won't stick but I'm not sure. Grease sounds like a better way, smear it on thinly like you would do if it were the proper releasing wax.

Help me clear something up, /diy/. As I understand it, a piston ring on the head of the piston seals the the blue side from the red side. But what prevents the fluid on the blue side from leaking out through the hole where the piston rod enters?

How do I keep my plants alive?

I will be spending a couple weeks out of town visiting my mother. I have some basil, thyme and parsley growing in a window in my house. I fear my plants will dry out and die while I am gone. What can I do?

After a leak required half my bathroom floor torn up, I've decided to take the time to fix some other things in there. I'm hoping there are some handymen on this board that can give some advice.. some of the caulking around the tub turned solid black in places just a few months after the last renovation. Other spots in and around the tub were perfectly fine. One area curled up and wouldn't stick to anything. When I went to clean the fan, the bathroom got a lot brighter when I took the plastic cover off the light, and it looked burnt and orange-y. Do I need a new fixture, on it there a way to clean the plastic? got to apply some new grout in places. anything to keep in mind, besides what it says on the box? thanks in advance.

Hey /diy/ I've wanted to start planning a home, but a house like innawoods. What I mean is I would like to build a solid home that could withstand almost any of the elements natural disasters. Something solid. I want a home out in the country....somewhat. I don't want to be too far from a big community and have it relatively close. Not out in the middle of no where or in suburbia. I've worked on houses before that were made of "IBF" I believe its called, but its basically Styrofoam Lego type blocks for forms that are to be filled with concrete. Whats the R factor of this stuff? Is it worth being my exterior walls? also I've heard of a show called "the house of Bryan" where he builds a house that is efficient and lasts "a thousand years" kind of crap, but I heard a lot of stuff about that home being very high tech. In a sense; I want to start planning on a house that can basically be a self sustaining fortress some 15-25 km from a big town or city with enough land to fence in and be my own little Castle in the woods. I'm going to throw this out there, but something zombie safe? please I know you will knock me for this but I just want something like that. A place if you will, that can be fairly secure from people, and have enough space to raise animals if I choose to be self sufficient. Im asking you for help on what kind of materials would be suitable for a strong long lasting self sufficient home? What kind of technologies would help me build this home to live off the grid and still be in the lifestyle of today?

Gas fireplace question

Stupid question (I know, there are no stupid questions - only stupid people who ask questions): Just moved into a new house and have a gas fireplace, which is my first. Turned it on for the first time today. Flipped the wall switch and heard a clicking in the firebox which turned out to be the intermittent pilot ignitor (IPI) shooting a spark across the pilot light, which lit immediately. The ignitor continued clicking for about 30-45 seconds while the pilot light burned. I then heard the gas valve open and the burner lit successfully. The ignitor stopped clicking at the same time the gas valve opened. Is this normal operation? Seems like the ignitor clicked for way too long after the pilot lit, but that may be normal operation for an IPI unit...

Let's say, hypothetically speaking, that someone in a video game is annoying the fuck out of me. I mean, just really fucking annoying. Be it over ventrilo, or in game, he just keeps bugging me about all kinds of stupid shit that no one cares about, and eventually he started harassing other players and threatening them. And let's say I am very interested in crashing his computer. Can any of you guys suggest what I would need to Google search in order to narrow down my results to something useful? At least more useful then, "lrn2hack" or "crash someone's computer," because the first (or any variation thereof) gives me way too many random results that I don't know if they get me anywhere closer to achieving my goal, and the second tends to give me things I could do if I had physical access to the computer. Yup.
