Casting

So I'm going to be making props out of aluminium and brass for a short film. But I'm kind of new to this casting thing and I would like to know how to effectively remove dross, how fast or slow I should pour the metal, and how to capture detail using the last foam method with greensand. Other tips are also greatly appreciated thanks.

Mic through bluetooth

Good Afternoon /diy/ I have what I assume is a simple issue for some folks. I would like to know if I can have a bluetooth microphone play through some remote speakers. For example. Bluetooth Mic -> Android phone speakers. Doesn't this sound so simple? But the truth is, I can't figure it out to save my life. The mic is for listening. I almost feel like I need some way to monitor the bt mic. thoughts?

Is it kill ? I'm pretty sure I did some wiring error a few hours ago. Didn't noticed the problem until now. The "contrast wheel" on the right is now useless, it used to make the squares dissappear when turned all the way (both sides). The backlight was also waaaay brighter. Pic is the faulty thing, with a minimal wiring (power+contrast only).

Tecumseh Carb Exploded View?

Stupid snowblower (1977 Ariens ST-724) wouldn't start today, despite running great last winter (carb having been rebuilt by a buddy 2-3 years back) and I _think_ the problem is that there is no gas is being drawn up the jet into the venturi (the fuel line isn't clogged). I'd like to try my hand at fixing this but I'm not a gear-head and would like to find an exploded view of the carburetor before I start fucking around with it, but I can't seem to find one on-line. Can anybody help? Hidden door

I'm looking to create a hidden door in my house, it's just access to a small storage area off a bathroom, any ideas how I could hide the door? An opening bookcase is the obvious way but I don't really want a bookcase/open shelves in the bathroom,

Hey /DIY/ I've put together a couple of wooden ramps, intended to load a motorcycle into the back of a Ute, and am looking for something to form an anti-slip surface, for loading in the rain. Preferably something free/cheap. Tried sand, but there is nothing coarse enough in my local area. Any ideas?

I managed to bend the aux jack of my Beyerdynamic DT 990 headphones, and even when I bent it back in place it's till not working properly. The sound is distorted/muffled. Would it be easy or difficult to just replace the whole thing?

I'll be moving to a new office soon and need to upgrade my storage. Currently I'm using 10 Ikea Helmer units. The size of the drawers is great (especially the depth), the problem is the lack of slides making heavy drawers difficult to move. Can anyone recommend a brand of quality industrial drawers that I can use to replace these?

Why has no one built anything like Portal's long-fall boots yet? I'm no designer by any stretch of the imagination, but it seems to me that if you got the boots from pic-related, and added in a spring-lock sort of system that clicks into place when the main spring is compressed sufficiently, then you could jump off a (smallish) roof, hit the ground with the springs, absorbing the impact and locking into place. Then later you could release (by remote?) and it'd give you a horse's strength kick or one hell of a boost jump. Why wouldn't this work?

what do i need to do?

I bought a N9 listening device (because fuck you that's why) and the damn thing flashes like its connected when I put in the sim card but I just get the voice mail when I call it and its supposed to answer automatically. I bought a track phone to use the sim card from. was I not supposed to activate the phone or what?

New couch...

Just bought a new couch from rooms to go. It got here today. The cushions feel a lot more stiff than the model that was in the store. I feel like I fucked up. Anyway to remedy this? Maybe put some heavy weights on the cushions and let them sit there for a few weeks?

Hi, DIY. I want some advice and help. Long ago I built a Power supply (with lm317, 2n3055 and shit) and it works flawlessly. The only problem now is that I want to test some RF circuit I built. The RF circuit is OK. It works without any noise on the battery, but on my power power supply it is noisy as hell. The pic attached is the RF circuit (ugly I must say. I built it 4 years ago when I was learning to build circuits on boards). It is a VHF receiver for amateur radio. If anyone knows a good filter for my case, I will be verry happy to implement it on my power supply.

Hey /diy/. I dont think this belongs in the black smithing or casting threads but Imma post it here. So Iv been working on a small charcoal forge and I have everything, except for the most important part. The crucible. Iv read bad things about using flowerpots. I hear the ideal would be a fire extinguisher tank or a small propane tank. But I dont have access to such things and I have no clue what would work for a crucible that I could acquire inexpensively. Also planning to be melting aluminum if that helps. Pic Unrelated.

Say someone wanted to make a small shipping container-like underwater room, that's only submerged enough so that there is maybe a meter of water on top of it, maybe less, what would the person need to do to reinforce it? Would they need to do anything else to prevent bad shit from happening? No I am not going to actually do this, just wondering. Lets hope this posts this time.

Hey, how susceptible to breaking is wooden floor beneath tiles to flooding damage? My friend in another country is having a panick attack because he accidentally left the sink running for 3 hours and it apparently overflowed onto the rug and around the sink. He says there's no sign of sagging in the ceiling on the room below (it's on the second floor) but that there's a gap around the sink itself due to a bad installation. According to him the sink was slightly clogged already but it seems that the water unclogged it eventually and mostly drained away, but that there's creaking from the floorboards beneath the tiles now, so he's worried the whole bathrooms going to collapse and he's hyperventilating. The dude's a poorfag and doesn't have the money to fix this. So yeah, how much damage can three hours worth of water do to the structural integrity of wooden floorboards?
