So I'm trying to get into amp building (guitar). I know the basics/intermediates of electronics (computer engineering dropout) but I know nothing about tubes. First a question: what is wattage determined by in tube amps? Is it mostly number/type of tubes in the power section? Supply voltage to the tubes? Also recommendations and tips on building amps would be appreciated, or just pictures of nice amps, thanks alot!

Hey /diy. First time here. Any of you folks know how to get this goddamn light out of here? The outer shell pulls down, slightly exposing the bulb, but not enough to grab it. I've tried tape, suction cups, etc.

Hey /diy/! I'm working on a home-made analog synthesizer and I've run out of ideas. Right now I can control the pitch and whether it's a sine/square/triangle wave, but I want it to do some more things. Problem is, I don't really know what else it's supposed to do! Got any ideas? I posted on /sci/ too, but nobody responded

Alright I've thought about this for a good 5 seconds. Any ideas on how to turn this into a laptop so that it holds itself up? I got some springs, sheet metal, a single tiny spring hinge.

For milling and turning on the lathe, either manual or CNC, because hobby machinist forums are a nightmare. Note, 3D printing belongs in /3dpg/ For beginners: http://tomstechniques.com/ Other resources: http://www.projectsinmetal.com/

I have a queen mattress and it's uncomfortable as fuck to sleep on, it hurts my back every night. What are some DIY methods to make it more comfortable? I seriously don't have a few thousand to throw down for a nice mattress right now.

Soap Making: Good, Clean Fun

Hey /diy/! We've had a couple of successful soap-making threads before, and they actually were a huge inspiration to me, so I want to return the favor. Let's have a general soap making thread! Post your recipes, learn about the soap making process, and maybe earn a few bucks along the way. I'll share everything I can with you, and hopefully one of the OPs of the previous threads will join us. Let's have some good, clean fun.

I have been testing this circuit in simulation which is supposed to be a low pass 60Hz filter, as far as i am concerned the simulation works as intended in simulation starts filtering frequencies above 60Hz and after this the amplitude starts going down, i can use a bode plotter to confirm this and change the frequency of the function generator while i see how the sin wave gets less and less amplitude the higher the frequency

I need a portable toolbox or toolbag. I'm looking for something that can give me good accessibility. I'm tired of rummaging through tools inside of bags or boxes. Short of building custom organizers, what bags/boxes are out there that have a TON of pockets or several drawers? I have one of those cheap, cantilever tool boxes from Amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WUUY3Q/ It's decent at organizing stuff, but the foldout trays are kind small and the bottom trays/main compartment are overlapped by the trays above them by more than an inch on each side. It's also really heave, considering it doesn't offer much structure or good organizational features. At this point, I'm leaning toward designing my own modular organizational system and cutting it out of aluminum at work on the CNC plasma table. This will be a huge pain in the ass... There should be something out there already.

Stepper + Arduino

Hello all! I've been trying for a while to control a stepper motor with an Arduino. Ok, it shouldn't be a problem, but IT IS! I've going to share some of my experience here and ask some specific questions : ) THE GOAL I'm working on a project to control 8 stepper motors with an Arduino. The idea is to build a crazy machine that is supposed to make kites. The machine works like some kind of assembly line, so the motors will have to operate in a sequence, with different speeds (not so difficult to achieve) and it should work around 10 hours a day. THE MOTOR Ok, so the motors I have are: Stepper Motor type 57BYG059 4V per phase 1.6 A per phase 1.8 degrees per step THE DRIVERS Ok, here is the first challenge and future question: "Which driver should I use?" I've came across some options: Easy Driver A4988 TB6560 L298N The TB6560 seems to be more robust and maybe suitable for my needs. Once he's input logic is identical to Easy Driver and A4988 I decided to prototype with A4988. (After burning an EasyDrive) http://www.instructables.com/id/ARDUINO-UNO-TB6560-Stepper-motor-driver/?ALLSTEPS THE QUESTIONS 1. First question is: which Driver should I use, is there any other recomendation besides the one I've already mentioned? Is the TB6560 really better than the others? 2. I found a couple of tutorials around showing how to assemble everything together, BUT, the TB I have here is different from all those mentioned, it has 4, and not 6 control inputs (pic related). Has anyone here ever worked with it? How should I proceed? That's all for now. Thanks for your time, take care!

dear /diy/, I've cut down this Elderberry (Sambucus nigra) and was wondering if I should send this to a sawmill. I'm not able to find anyone that is using this type of wood, can someone please explain? The log is ~2.5m long and ~20cm wide
