I've been doing some glass engraving as a hobby and I'm thinking about buying a CNC machine, the problem is that the machine comes with some demo software so I'm looking for a cracked Mach 3 CNC or any similar open source software since the license costs 175$, pls halp. Should I buy the license, is it really worth it? Also, general glass engraving thread I guess.

Hi /diy/ my request might look a bit weird and different than soldering or woodworking something. My neighbourhood is invaded by thousands of seagulls and their yelling laugh is now destroying my sanity for 2 months. I need to craft some sort of poison to erase them from my roof, giving them poisoned meatballs. Can you help me with some chemical ingredients to mix in ?

Sup /dyi/, I'm chaging the rear sprocket on my bike but ran into problems. The bolts are so damn tight I couldn't open them with my ratcher. Any protips? I have WD-40 if that woulp help at all. Also do you think battery powered impact wrench could do it? Would be a good excuse to buy one.

Hello /diy/. Background: I have a laptop I am trying to fix. The laptops mobo was bad, so I wanted to buy a mobo to replace it. However, the mobos are going for $300 dollarydoos for whatever reason. So I bought one that had a bad dc jack so I could fix it for cheaper. mobo cost me $160. I was going to replace it with the dc jack on the mobo that was in the laptop because I knew it was good. HOWEVER. Every time I tried to desolder the dc jack off the mobo, either the solder wouldn't flow into the wick, or the solder sucker wouldn't actually suck out the solder. I ended up breaking the jack trying to pull it out after removing all the solder I could. I tried adding lower melting point solder. I always used generous amounts of flux. I made sure my tip was cleaned/tinned. I made sure I was quick with the solder sucker. I can remove small inductors and capacitors with no problem, why should the DC jack be any different?

Sup /diy/, I have an odd request. I work at Woolwerff, and I "look after" the produce. I want to somehow cause all the stock to deteriorate really fast. If you leave rotten stock around, insects come and fuck up the place, but people remove the root cause. What can I do to incur maximum damage at this place? Keep in mind, I can set things up, bring things to work, and I work unsupervised a lot of the time.

Customised Coffee Mugs

I want to make a custom coffee mug as a present for a friend, but I need it to be quality. The problem is that all the websites I can find to make custom mugs, they're all just small pictures on them. I need something like pic related, in fact I'm going to make this but just with a different picture and word, so I need that full wrap around of color(including handle). I'm happy to do it myself but I have no idea what paint to use or anything like that!

Hey /diy/ im new to this stuff so bear with me.... Im sixteen so my parents are divorced so they have split custody of mr. My father has been keeping the house my two brothers and I grew up in, while my mom moved out. The reason im coming to /diy/ is to ask for tips on "mini houses". With my dad being single and working at a local walmart, its been hard for him to keep up with the house. As a result we have been confronted with the prospect of loosing the house and moving to a 20 acre piece of property we own. Followed by the construction of mini houses for my Dad, each of my brothers, and I. What im asking is if any of you have any experiance in this sort of stuff. Any ideas, tips, or sudjestions on the building of a mini house would help a great deal, thanks!!

Anyone know how to make a dog whistle sound cannon? My neighbors dogs bark nonstop and I'm looking for a way to quite them. Animal control doesn't care. I heard something about using PVC pipe.

hey dudes, I took my electric skateboard project out for a test today. it worked very well! the connector for the arduino kept falling out but that's an easy fix. I want to take it to work so I drove it halfway to work and back. quite fast and very fun. though i thing I'll try different routes to avoid the overly rough asphalt. however, when i got home i realized pic related had happened without me noticing. it looks to have breached a cell and smells a bit chemical-y, but all the cells are at 22.37-22.39. i'm buying a new one either way. but how risky would it be to just tape it up and recharge it? i think i'd do it outside. is it a firehazard even now? should i kill it by discharging it with power resistors, then just dispose of it. i don't care all that much about the money, just shipping times are quite long to Norway.

Securing your home

How do you secure your home against thieves, robbers and rapist cannibals? As most of us know, a simple lock can be picked within a minute so we must think up other ways of protecting our homes. How would you do it?

Simple RC Transceiver

Does anyone have any recommendations for a simple but far range (100-300 ft) RC Transceiver for like an RC car or boat? All the ones I found online have way too many buttons and sticks. All I need is one directional stick and maybe three toggle switches or buttons.

I do this thread a couple times a year, and people seem to find some use in them. or they bitch at the random shit that happened to them in HD/Lowes/bongland equivalent. Whichever you want. I know paint/building materials/backend and have passing familiarity with lighting and the specialty ordering areas, AMA

I have money to throw at woodworking, what should I get?

I want to get started with woodworking and looked into this: http://www.startwoodworking.com/lists/12-basic-hand-tools-woodworking https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ao8I_cMqh_M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GU7Wrfl4Bnw I already have some old power tools but want to get into older handtools with the goal to build furniture, a bit of framing and woodworking tools. Until now i have a little bit experience but I didnt finish anything. Things i want to build first are a new bed, a table and some shelfs (they need to work, so if they are ugly its not a problem) I got most of the tool listed there but in bad condition (fleamarket), like some old saws, chisels, wooden planes, coping saw, square, drawknife, bevel gauge and mallet. Things I know I need to get are a card scraper and a marking gauge. My problems now are, that I dont get the planes and chisel sharp enough/bevel right and I am not sure if the planes and saws are working correct. I was thinking about buying good measuring and sharpening tools and learn to proper sharpen and fix my tools and later buy/make better stuff. Is it possible to get bad/old tolls back to working as a beginner without experience in using good working tools? Just from testing, reading and videos? What would you recommend for me to do? Buy good stuff or get good maintenance tools and try to restore older tools?

Im just gertting into the ESP8266 Hype, How ever i have never worked with wifi modules/boards im getting confused, why is there so many board revisions from 01 to 12, and which one is better? to my eyes, The 07 seems to be able to be connected to both sides of the breadboard, unlike 01, but i wanted to ask here first Which is actually the best revision of the boards to start working into home automation via my cellphone

What low-cost embedded platforms allow setting breakpoints while debugging? I know Arduino doesn't.

Touching up spray paint

Assuming it would somehow be impractical to just spray the damn thing again, what sort of paint/pigment would be a good match for a matte black spray paint?
