I'm tired of living in a cramped urban setting. So I heard sea containers can be purchased for as little as 720.00$ My plan is to make a boat out of one. It wouldnt be powered. More of a floating house type thing. Where I could just close the hatch and float off wherever the current takes me. I will of course need to furnish the inside of the container to sustain me until I wash up on shore again. I was also thinking of various hatches around so I can get out and so some fishing. As well. What word be the best gaskets for the portholes?

PFC SFL inductors

Sup /diy/, I'm having quite a hard time with this cheap little thing right here, and I thought you guys could know something about it. I'm looking for an specific type of inductor here in Europe and seems it's kind of a feat to buy just one for a quick repair. I tried to contact with the only place here that seems to build them (in Italy) with no answer whatsoever. Asking around lead me to search for a chinese website that sells them by single units, but I still haven't found it (I have searched Alibaba already. Maybe I'm blind but I haven't found the one that I need). Does anyone here know any webpage where I could find these type of inductors? This is the type of inductor that I'm looking for. Exactly the 95-170W variation http://www.itacoilweb.com/eng/inductors_sfl.html And I'm trying to fix the transformer of a Vieta vu100 sound bar that sounds excellent. Thank you in advance!

Hey /diy/ I want to share something I've made. My car key was broken and the cost to get it replaced is more than I can afford right now. I had already attempted to fix it by taping on a nail but that broke after a couple months. On my break at work today I fixed it with wool and I'm pretty happy with the results. Pic related, Before. What is everyone else working on lately?

LED flood lights

So I got this janky LED flood light off amazon for my aquarium. Figured it would have came wired. Well i thought wrong, I'm no good when it comes to working with electronics some I'm not too sure what I need to do to be able to plug it into a socket. Will all I need is a simple power cord with an adapter for the wires to fit into?

I know it's a silly question to ask but never the less I still wonder. Why do so many people still use imperial over metric? Metric is so much simpler. Probably just preference but I don't understand why you'd want to use fractions of an increment over a whole single unit.

I want to mount my TV on a drywall, but the studs have a distance of 24" and my TV mount is 19". The mount is rated for 50 lbs with 4 screws, 2 in each stud. My TV is only 20 lbs. Can I just screw the mount centered on 1 stud or am I a retard and going to destroy my wall?

I got a quick question. Painting ammo cans. Should one can of spray paint be enough to paint two .30 cal and one .50 cal ammo cans with one coat?

I want to build a diy version of this. It's a tester for epees. What it does: - when A and B are connected, red glows - when either A or B (or both) are connected to C, green glows There's a battery somewhere. I have a bunch of clamps that I can attach to the prongs, and some cables plus LEDs. How would the wiring look like? I tried something with three clamps and multiple wires, but that always closes the circuit.

I've started seeing bright orange stains coming out of my shower drain. I initially thought it must be the drain cover or hair catcher corroding but there's no sign of that. After taking off the drain cover it looks like there is some kind of metallic or mineral growth in there. Now, this could be just concrete from where the builders didn't clear the cavity completely (quite likely) but I've never looked before. It seems it could be Serratia marcescens. Any advice on this? Pic semi related, not mine, the stuff that comes out of my drain is bright orange, not rusty brown.

I am planning on painting my bicycle frame. Its stripped down to bare steel. I just want a glossy white. How do you do it? Should I buy a crappy HVLP gun, and use a cheap premix all in 1 automotive paint? Should I just rattle can it? Both need to wetsand and buff correct?

So I bought a nice table from a reuse store the other day but the top is a little worn so I want to sand it and put some varnish on it. Only I have never done anything like this before. Does anyone have any tips? From what i understand I need to get some fine sandpaper, lightly sand the top down, then apply 2 or 3 layers of varnish, letting it dry intbetween each layer. Is this right? Is there a certain type of varnish I should buy?

Energy whip

Okay so, I need all of your help. I'm doing a Samus cosplay, but I would really love to have the energy whip she uses. The only problem is, I wouldn't know how to start making one really. I've been told a retractable cord with EL wiring might be good, but I would love to have any other considerations on how to approach this. I would ask the Cosplay thread, but they really dont build or make much of their own things. Thank you for your help :)

Calling all wood workers I need your help. I received this cabinet from my father-in-law. It's supposed to be used for an entertainment center but I want to convert it into a generic china cabinet to put dishes etc. on. I'm going to be staining it black cherry but there is a hole in the back where cables would usually go through. The bottom hole isn't so bad because there are cabinet drawers that will be closed. But how do I fill the top hole in a way that when I stain it, it will blend in and not stick out like a soar thumb? How or what should I fill the hole with and do you have any examples of what the finished product would look like? I should mention there is a shelf that also goes on the top.

Okay so I'm doing a project that involves a Arduino stepper motors and tank tracks.Building a tank track based vehicle for a experiment Now I have a problem/question ?? should I use a belt drive or gear drive,as you can see in pic I have to get the drive from the motor shafts to other shafts Now using the belt drive is easier to make but I can have some power loss from the belt slipping and being the stepper motor with the torque and precision movement this can be very problematic Gear drive is definitively better but is more harder and complicated to make, also gears aren't cheap ! whats the best cheapest method to go here ? Homemade Foundry

Hey /diy/, a few days ago i came here to ask advice on my homemade foundry's insulation material. Some guys told me that a 50/50 mix of plaster of paris and sand would work, so i tried to use it. I measured the correct amount of water and properly poured without letting many air bubbles settle. I also made a lid from the same material (pic related). A couple days later i fired it up for the first time with an air blower, getting a nice heat build-up and being able to smelt some aluminum, but after a few minutes it cracked in half. Can anybody tell me what i may have done wrong, how to prevent it from cracking next time and maybe some other resistant material that i can use?
