SQT

So I am trying to make a portable speaker system, thinking about using a car battery as my battery. Which I'm sure you know is 12vdc, however the amp I am getting says it needs 12vac dual (pic related). What is the best way to do this? Ac to DC is easy, but what about DC to Ac? Also stupid question thread

So, I need a case for my e-reader. I was thinking a hollowed out book, though I am not sure how I would make it waterproof or impact-resistant. In theory, I could coat the outside with something, but the part that needs to actually open would be at risk. Magnets might give me a tighter close than velcro, but that poses a danger to the electronics, right? What would give me the best cushioning per volume? I'd like it to still be portable, so the free space around the reader would be <1cm.

Caravan renovation

Hey all. Recently purchased a piece of shit caravan (Pictured) and wanna do it up over the next while. Luckily I wont be in during winter; but what suggestions do you guys have/some know how? I want it pretty empty; like a spare room I suppose. Things that need doing: -Windows are all broken. Yep, every one of them. -Theres a goddamn hole in the floor -Strip the other half. -Figure out what do with wiring -Replace a window frame. This caravan was made in the 1970's... May be difficult. -Wouldn't mind having it plumbed for a sink. It clearly used to be. God knows whats been sitting in its tank since though. Thanks all!

About how much should I expect to spend if I make a pallet shed? Something large enough to hold some basic tools for basic woodworking?

Beginner tool set

So, I want to work on anything mechanical, from a bicycle to the engine of a vehicle and beyond, but I currently don't have any tools. So, I need to get a mechanic's tool set as a base to build my tool collection. I need suggestions for an affordable, but decent quality kit. Not that it matters at this point, but I'm eventually going to build my collection to a point where I can attend an A&P class. But, right now, I just need something to get by with. And really don't want to pay Snap On prices, like $300 for an 8 piece wrench set.

I just finished second semester Japanese. I am wanting to make flash cards for all of the words that I have learned. I don't want to use digital ones, because I find that I don't learn as well unless I have a physical flashcard. Anyways, I could just sit down and make all of these, but as there are 1000+ words, that seems like it will take forever. What I was thinking is that I have a digital copy of the book for my class, including vocab lists that could be easily converted to CSVs. Would there be an easy way to, once I have the CSV, to then print these in bulk? I was thinking of using business card paper to print them, or something like pic, but I'm not sure how to send it up to print them dynamically like that from a CSV or equivalent. Any ideas?

Ask a lamp worker anything thread / Post your recent glasswork thread. Also, how did your workday go? This summer heat has made the shop almost unbearable to be in. Running two kilns in front of a torch isn't that chilly. There was a sweat literally dripping off my face today.

I'm new to caring for furniture. I goof'd and cleaned my oiled oak table with a water-dampened cloth and now the grain is raised slightly. What can I do to return its smoother surface? Without sanding if possible, I just bought it pretty much.

I've had this hole on my roof for years, and I don't want to pay to fix it, what would I do? It doesn't have to look pretty or match the rest of the dry wall

Hi /diy/ I'm building a power rack and I bought 2x4's to screw together. I'm kinda lost. Where and how often do the boards need to be screwed?

Interfacing with PDU

3 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
A while back, I scavenged the guts from a PDU power bar (IT had 24 slots, the readout thingy, lan port, all that nice crap). The entire unit had been run over by a forklift and was otherwise salvageable, but the control electronics inside seemed fine. I hooked up everything today and I now have the power-supply and the microcontroller bits sitting on my table blinking away. My question is, has anyone interfaced with a PDU device from a pc? Anyone have any experience? Any fun ideas for using it? I think it would be cool to do SOMETHING with it, since it looks to be working, but I don't know exactly what... pic related

converting appliances to dc power. 12 or 24. Anyone ever do this? Building up a small solar system but the cost of efficient dc appliances is a whole lot. Tools, air conditioning, refrigeration, fans, tv etc.

Boy Scouts Radio Merit Badge

1 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Okay, so last year I was an instructor of the Boy Scouts Radio Merit Badge, I came here for advice about a simple shortwave circuit, one that didn't need hundreds of feet of wire and actually used transistors. They worked, it was a big hit, but I plan on doing a new one. Here's my circuit now, and I have a few questions. >the 600 uH coil It doesn't show what the values for primary and secondary are, it just says '600 uh.' And besides that, I don't have any way to measure the induction. I made a coil just from #22 wire on a pill canister that looks like the ones in photos, but no luck. Next I tried a coil from an old radio, still no luck. What do? I'm trying to get this prototype to work, but it's not doing anything, even with a big amplifier on the audio section. Also changed the 140 pf and 7 pf to an old timey variable capacitor I got at a hamfest. Need to get this shit up and running, I've procrastinated too long

What did you make today?

Last thread hit the bump limit. It is here >>812939 So, what did you make or improve today, Anon? Nothing special today, I just replaced the sockets and wiring in this faulty light fixture so I didn't have to buy a new one.

So I plan on covering a desk with Expoxy and it is about 10mm to the top of the desk. Would it be better to just go ahead and use a huge amount so it fills the entire surface up to the edge or do multiple layers at a time?

Ok, so I want to start doing some diy summer projects, but not really sure what to do. My creative spark isn't working so I need some ideas. The only idea I came up with is a geiger counter (well really just an ion chamber) but can't think of anything else. What are some projects I can work on, preferably electronics, so I can learn more about that stuff (I'm an engr student and my roommate is an EE major but I don't know shit about electronics really). Maybe a radar/cell phone jammer? Any ideas would be great.

I am building a new power plant for my airsoft gun, instead of having a spring compressed by a gear set & a rotary motor I am going to use an electromagnet to attract & repel a magnetic piston to cycle & fire the gun. Problem is I know very little about electronics or programing (I plan to prototype using an Arduino) & could use a few pointers towards how to layout a circuit & what components to use where.
